Caramelised Pear and Rocket (Arugula) Salad With Blue Cheese image

This is just so simple and easy to do but is full of flavour as well. I did use pine nuts when I made this and they worked out quite well. I would suggest a good robust blue for this or Gorgonzola.

Tip 1: Choose the freshest ingredients

The first tip to make the perfect arugula salad with prosciutto blue cheese and pear is to choose the freshest ingredients. The freshness of the ingredients is essential to achieve the best results, so make sure you choose arugula that is bright green and firm, prosciutto that is not too salty or too dry, blue cheese that is creamy and not too strong, and pears that are ripe, juicy, and sweet.
Things to consider when choosing the ingredients:
  • Arugula: Choose fresh and firm arugula leaves, and avoid wilted or yellow leaves.
  • Prosciutto: Choose prosciutto that is not too salty or too dry. Good quality prosciutto should have a delicate and savory flavor with a tender texture.
  • Blue Cheese: Choose creamy and mild blue cheese like Gorgonzola or Roquefort that complement the arugula and pear flavors. Avoid strong and pungent blue cheese that can overpower the other ingredients.
  • Pear: Choose ripe and juicy pears that are sweet and fragrant. You can use any variety of pear, but some of the best choices are Bartlett, Anjou, and Bosc pears.

Tip 2: Add some crunch and texture

Adding some crunch and texture to the arugula salad with prosciutto blue cheese and pear can make it more flavorful and satisfying. You can add some nuts, seeds, or croutons to the salad to achieve this.
Suggestions for adding crunch and texture:
  • Nuts: Toasted almonds, walnuts, or pecans can provide a nutty and crunchy flavor that complements the sweetness of the pear and the savory flavors of prosciutto and blue cheese.
  • Seeds: Roasted pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, or sesame seeds can provide a nutty and crunchy flavor that adds texture and depth to the salad.
  • Croutons: Homemade or store-bought croutons can provide a crispy and crunchy texture that complements the creamy and soft texture of blue cheese and the tender texture of prosciutto.

Tip 3: Dress the salad with a light vinaigrette

Dressing the arugula salad with prosciutto blue cheese and pear with a light vinaigrette can enhance the flavors of the ingredients and provide a tangy and refreshing taste. However, it is essential to choose a light and simple vinaigrette that does not overpower the other ingredients.
Suggestions for a light vinaigrette:
  • Lemon Vinaigrette: Mix lemon juice, olive oil, honey, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper in a bowl until well combined.
  • Balsamic Vinaigrette: Mix balsamic vinegar, olive oil, honey, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper in a bowl until well combined.
  • Honey Mustard Vinaigrette: Mix honey, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, salt, and pepper in a bowl until well combined.

Tip 4: Arrange the ingredients beautifully

Arranging the arugula salad with prosciutto blue cheese and pear beautifully can make it more appealing and appetizing. You can arrange the ingredients in layers, mix them together, or arrange them in a circular pattern to achieve this.
Suggestions for arranging the ingredients:
  • Layered Salad: Start by placing a bed of arugula leaves on a serving platter, followed by slices of prosciutto, crumbled blue cheese, diced pear, and nuts or seeds. Repeat the layering until all ingredients are used up.
  • Mixed Salad: Toss the arugula leaves, prosciutto slices, crumbled blue cheese, diced pear, and nuts or seeds together in a large mixing bowl. Transfer the salad to a serving platter and enjoy.
  • Circular Salad: Arrange the arugula leaves in a circular pattern on a serving platter, followed by slices of prosciutto, crumbled blue cheese, diced pear, and nuts or seeds. Arrange the ingredients in a circular pattern until the platter is full.

Tip 5: Serve the salad at the right temperature

Serving the arugula salad with prosciutto blue cheese and pear at the right temperature is crucial to enhance the flavors and textures of the ingredients. The salad should be served at room temperature or slightly chilled to achieve the best results.
