EGYPTIAN LEMON CHICKEN WITH FIGS

Egyptian Lemon Chicken With Figs image

This is a slight adaptation of a recipe found at Recipes4us.co.uk. The figs are tender and sweet but the lemon and thyme balance that out quite nicely. The fig's flavor makes me think of a raisin, cranberry and a cherry all mixed together. Sweet, but tangy at the same time. A super easy dish to put together & even easier to eat! :D

Arabic chicken with lemon thyme is a delicious and healthy recipe that can be made in a variety of ways. The dish combines succulent chicken pieces seasoned with aromatic spices, lemon juice and fresh thyme, making it a perfect option for anyone who loves easy-to-make, flavourful and healthy meals. Whether you are a beginner cook or a seasoned pro, here are some valuable tips to keep in mind when making Arabic chicken with lemon thyme.

Choose Quality Chicken

The first and most important step in making Arabic chicken with lemon thyme is to choose high-quality chicken. This means selecting meat that is fresh, organic and free-range if possible. Also, be sure to cut your chicken into pieces that are evenly sized to ensure they cook evenly.

Select Fresh Thyme

Thyme is a key ingredient in this recipe and selecting the freshest thyme available is essential to bring out its full flavour. Avoid using wilted thyme, and try to purchase it from a reputable source.

Choose the Right Spices

Arabic chicken with lemon thyme is a flavourful dish that relies on a combination of spices and herbs to create its unique taste. Among the essential spices you will need include cinnamon, paprika, coriander, and cumin.

Marinate the Chicken

Marinating chicken before cooking is a great way to lock in flavour and add more depth to your dish. To make the marinade, combine olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, dried thyme and your selected spices. Place the chicken pieces in a large bowl and pour the marinade over it, making sure every piece is well coated. Cover the bowl and let it marinate for at least an hour, or preferably overnight in the refrigerator.

Cook in a Tagine

For many centuries, tagine has been the traditional cookware for Moroccan and North African dishes. The conical shape of a tagine helps to retain the moisture and flavour of the chicken, while slowly cooking it to perfection. If you don't have a tagine, you can also use an oven-safe casserole dish with a lid as a substitute.

Use Low Heat

Cooking Arabic chicken with lemon thyme slowly over low heat is the secret to a tender delicious dish. Start by cooking your chicken pieces over low heat to ensure they are cooked through without drying them out. Take your time and let the dish cook slowly, stirring occasionally.

Add Lemon Juice and Zest

Lemon juice and zest add a refreshing taste to the dish that lifts and balances the flavours of the spices and herbs. Squeeze fresh lemon over the cooked chicken, and sprinkle lemon zest on top for an extra burst of citrus flavour.

Serve With Couscous or Rice

Arabic chicken with lemon thyme is a perfect pairing with couscous or rice. Both options are easy to prepare and provide a neutral base for the spicy and zesty flavours of the chicken. You can also serve it alongside roasted vegetables like carrots and sweet potatoes, which help add some sweetness and texture to the dish.

Conclusion

Arabic chicken with lemon thyme is a tasty and healthy meal that is easy to prepare, yet full of flavour. Pay attention to the quality of the chicken you choose, the freshness of thyme, and take your time while cooking over low heat. Adding lemon juice and zest, and serving it with couscous or rice will give your dish a Mediterranean vibe that's sure to impress your family and friends. Use these tips for making Arabic chicken with lemon thyme, and enjoy a truly delicious and nourishing meal.
