Time 3h25m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 18

Nonstick cooking spray, for spraying the pan
All-purpose flour, for dusting the pans
3 ripe bananas
2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
3 large eggs
One 11-ounce box vanilla wafers, crushed
1 cup buttermilk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Pinch salt
1 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Confectioners' sugar, for sprinkling

Steps:

  • For the cake: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray two 9-inch round cake pans with nonstick cooking spray and lightly dust with flour. Set aside.
  • In a small bowl, mash the bananas and then stir in the lemon juice. Set aside. Using an electric mixer, cream the butter and granulated sugar until fluffy, about 5 minutes. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Add the vanilla wafers in 3 additions and the buttermilk in 2 additions, beginning and ending with the wafers. Beat until combined, then add the mashed bananas and vanilla and beat until fully incorporated.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 1 hour. Cool in the pans for 10 minutes before turning out onto racks to cool completely.
  • For the filling: Separate the yolk from the white of 1 of the eggs. Discard the white. In a saucepan, whisk together the granulated sugar, flour, cornstarch and salt until completely combined. Stir in the egg yolk and remaining whole egg, and then stir in the milk. Cook uncovered over medium heat, stirring often, until the pudding thickens, 5 to 7 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Cover the pudding with plastic wrap, laying the wrap directly on the surface so a skin doesn't form. Chill in the fridge until completely cooled, about 30 minutes.
  • Spread the pudding between the cake layers. Chill the cake until the pudding filling is set, 30 minutes to 1 hour. Sprinkle the top of the cake with confectioners' sugar just before serving.

What is April Fools' Day?
Before we dive into the recipe, let's talk about April Fools' Day. It is an annual celebration that falls on the 1st of April. It is widely recognized around the world as a day of playing pranks and practical jokes on one another. Although the origin of the holiday is not clear, it is believed to have started in France during the 16th century. Interestingly, in France, the holiday is known as "Poisson d'Avril" - which means "April fish" - and it is customary to attach a fish-shaped paper to someone's back without them noticing. Now, back to the recipe.
Ingredients
  • 1 box of lasagna noodles
  • 6 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 package of vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 cup of whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup of mini chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup of shredded coconut
  • 1/4 cup of flour
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the milk and pudding mix. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, beat the whipping cream with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Fold the whipped cream into the pudding mixture.
  5. Add the mashed bananas, walnuts, chocolate chips, and coconut to the mixture. Stir until well combined.
  6. To make the lasagna layers, spread a thin layer of the pudding mixture on the bottom of a baking dish. Arrange a layer of lasagna noodles on top of the pudding mixture. Repeat until all the ingredients are used up.
  7. Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the lasagna is golden brown and bubbling.
  8. While the lasagna is baking, make the cinnamon crumble topping. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  9. Take the lasagna out of the oven and sprinkle the cinnamon crumble topping on top.
  10. Return the lasagna to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown.

Valuable Tips When Making April Fools Lasagna Banana Pudding Cake Recipes April Fools' Day is an exciting time to play harmless pranks on your family and friends. One way to fool them is by making a unique and outrageous dessert that looks like something else. The April Fools Lasagna Banana Pudding Cake is a perfect dish to fool your loved ones with, presenting as a traditional lasagna dish but is actually a tasty dessert that is so incredibly irresistible. Before you start making this delightful dessert, here are some valuable tips to take into account: 1. Preheat Your Oven It is crucial to preheat your oven before you start making this dessert. This will ensure that the oven reaches the correct temperature before you put your cake in it. A preheated oven will lead to even baking and a deliciously perfect cake. 2. Choose Your Baking Dish Wisely The baking dish you use is an essential aspect of this recipe, as it influences the cake's appearance and texture. Use a glass or a transparent dish if you want the lasagna layers to show through, giving it a convincing lasagna look. If you're more interested in the flavors, use a standard cake pan. You can also use a rectangular dish to make it look more like a "real" lasagna. 3. Buy Quality Ingredients Quality ingredients will make a significant difference in the taste and texture of your cake. Organic and fresh ingredients will make a world of difference. It's worth the extra cost to get good quality products. For example, fresh bananas, homemade custard, and fresh whipped cream will make your cake incredibly delicious! 4. Don't Skimp on the Cheese The Lasagna Banana Pudding Cake recipe calls for cream cheese as one of the key ingredients. Don't skimp on the cheese. Use a good quality cream cheese with at least 30% fat. It should be smooth, creamy, and tangy, making the cake more decadent and tasty. 5. Go Easy on the Noodles The noodles, or in this case, the crumbled graham crackers, provide a crunchy texture and a lasagna feel to the cake recipe. However, go easy on the amount of crumbled crackers, as a thick layer may be overwhelming and difficult to cut. A thin, even layer adds just enough crunch and flavor to your cake. 6. Use a Piping Bag To give your cake a professional and appealing look, use a piping bag to apply the whipped cream. Add a twist and flair to the whipped cream layer by using various icing tips, such as star tips or round tips. This will make the cake look edible and convincing as a lasagna. 7. Allow Sufficient Time to Chill Ensure that you allow for sufficient time to chill the cake before filling and serving. This will make the cake firmer, making it easier to cut and serve. At least one hour of refrigeration will give it the perfect texture and flavors. 8. Add Final Touches to the Dessert Now that your cake is chilled, it's time to add final touches to your lasagna banana pudding cake. Add your final layer of whipped cream and add as many with toppings as you'd like, such as chocolate flakes, banana slices, or raspberry coulis. These final touches will make your cake look even more like a lasagna and adding to its deliciousness. In conclusion April Fool's Day is a unique opportunity for you to play harmless and fun pranks on your loved ones. The Lasagna Banana Pudding Cake recipe is perfect for such an occasion, fooling your friends with its convincingly lasagna appearance but surprising them with its delicious taste.
