Aunt Anne's Sesame Cookies image

Time 32m

Yield 60

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup butter
¾ cup sugar
1 egg, room temperature
2 teaspoons anise extract
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon baking powder
⅛ teaspoon salt
½ cup milk, or as needed
1 cup sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and anise extract until well blended. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt; stir into the butter mixture until well incorporated. If you are using a stand mixer, let the dough mix for another minute to add lightness to the dough. The dough will be soft, but will hand roll easily.
  • Pinch off pieces of dough slightly smaller than a walnut, and roll them into small logs. Dip in milk, then roll in sesame seeds. Place cookies one inch apart on a cookie sheet. Cookies will not spread very much.
  • Bake for 17 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until bottom and sides of cookies are lightly toasted. Remove from cookie sheets to cool on wire racks. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Apricot sesame cookies are a delicious and easy to make treat that can be enjoyed by everyone. Whether you are an experienced baker or a novice, there are some valuable tips that can help you achieve the perfect apricot sesame cookies. In this article, we will discuss some important tips and tricks to help you create the perfect batch of apricot sesame cookies that will be loved by everyone. Ingredients Before we delve into the tips for making apricot sesame cookies, it is important to understand the standard ingredients needed for this recipe. The basic ingredients include unsalted butter, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, an egg, dried apricots, toasted sesame seeds, baking powder and salt. There are variations to this recipe which include additional ingredients such as vanilla extract, orange zest, and other flavorings. Regardless of the ingredients used, however, the following tips will be helpful. Tip #1 - Use unsalted butter One of the important things to keep in mind when making apricot sesame cookies is to use unsalted butter. This is because salted butter can alter the flavor and texture of the cookie dough. Additionally, unsalted butter allows you to control the amount of salt used in the recipe to ensure that it is just right. Tip #2 - Toast the sesame seeds Toasting the sesame seeds before adding them to the cookie dough is a great way to enhance their flavor. To do this, spread the sesame seeds in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake them in a preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until they become golden brown. Once they are toasted, let them cool before adding them to the cookie dough. Tip #3 - Dice apricots into small pieces When adding dried apricots to the cookie dough, it is recommended that you dice them into small pieces. This helps to distribute the apricot pieces evenly throughout the dough and ensures that the cookies will have a consistent flavor. Tip #4 - Chill the dough Once you have mixed the cookie dough, it is important to chill it for at least 30 minutes before baking. This allows time for the dough to firm up and prevents the cookies from spreading too much during baking. Tip #5 - Space out the cookies on the baking sheet When placing the cookie dough on the baking sheet, be sure to space them at least 1 - 2 inches apart. This allows room for the cookies to spread out during baking without touching each other. Tip #6 - Bake at the right temperature Baking the cookies at the right temperature is important to ensure that they cook evenly and do not burn. Usually, apricot sesame cookies should be baked at a temperature of 350°F for about 15-20 minutes, or until they turn golden brown. Tip #7 - Cool the cookies before serving Once the cookies are baked, remove them from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for several minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. This allows time for the cookies to firm up and prevents them from breaking apart when transferring. Conclusion In conclusion, apricot sesame cookies are a delicious treat that can be enjoyed by everyone. By following these valuable tips, you can ensure that your cookies turn out perfectly every time. Remember to use unsalted butter, toast the sesame seeds, dice apricots into small pieces, chill the dough, space out the cookies on the baking sheet, bake at the right temperature, and cool the cookies before serving. With these tips, you can create a batch of apricot sesame cookies that will impress your family and guests.
