Steps:
- For the grits: In a large pot over medium heat, cook the bacon and onions until the bacon is chewy and the onions are translucent, about 1 minute. Pour in the grits and add the chicken broth. Stir together and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer, cover and cook, stirring occasionally, for 30 to 40 minutes. Add the cream and cayenne, stirring them into the grits. Cover the pot and keep cooking over very low heat, stirring occasionally to keep them from sticking, until the grits are tender but still have a bite to them, another 20 to 30 minutes.
- Just before serving, stir in the cheese. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- For the pork chops: Melt the butter with the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sprinkle the pork chops on both sides with salt and pepper. Add the pork chops to the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. (They'll finish cooking in the skillet later.) Remove the pork chops to a plate.
- Put the skillet back on the heat, add the Applesauce and pour in the wine and vinegar. Cook until the liquid reduces by half, about 5 minutes. Pour in the maple syrup, stir it in and allow it to come to a bubble. Add the pork chops to the skillet, reduce the heat to low, cover and cook for another 20 minutes.
- To serve, spoon a generous helping of grits onto a plate. Lay a pork chop on top of the grits, and then spoon the apples over the top. Be sure to get a little extra pan sauce onto the plate.
- Throw the apples, apple juice and lemon juice into a pan and bring it to the boil over medium-high heat. Lower the heat and simmer until the apples are soft, about 15 minutes. Stir through the sugar and mix until melted. Add the cinnamon and stir through.
- Puree the mixture in a food processor, blender or food mill. If not using right away, leave to cool and then refrigerate.

Applesauce barbecue pork chops recipes are a delicious way to enjoy a hearty and flavorful meal. These recipes typically involve combining pork chops with a sweet and tangy applesauce-based marinade or glaze, and then cooking them using a variety of methods such as grilling, baking, or pan-searing. Apple juice, apple cider vinegar, and various spices are also commonly used in these recipes to enhance the flavor of the pork chops and accentuate the sweetness of the applesauce.
The Benefits of Applesauce in Barbecue Pork Chops Recipes
Applesauce is a popular ingredient in many barbecue pork chops recipes for several reasons. First, it adds a natural sweetness that complements the strong, savory flavor of the pork chops. This sweetness makes the pork chops more palatable and enjoyable to eat, especially for those who may not be used to eating pork. Additionally, the natural acids in applesauce help to tenderize the meat, making it more tender and juicy. Finally, applesauce is a healthier alternative to many other types of marinades or glazes, as it is relatively low in calories and fat, and contains beneficial nutrients like vitamin C and fiber.
Preparing Pork Chops for Applesauce Barbecue Recipes
Before making applesauce barbecue pork chops, it is important to choose the right cut of pork chops and properly prepare them. Thick-cut bone-in pork chops are ideal for these recipes, as they are more flavorful and tend to stay juicy during the cooking process. Boneless pork chops are also suitable, but may not be as flavorful or tender as bone-in chops.
To prepare the pork chops, you should trim off any excess fat or gristle, and then season them with salt, pepper, and any other desired spices. Once they are seasoned, you can then begin to marinate them in the applesauce-based marinade or glaze for several hours or overnight, depending on the recipe.
Cooking Applesauce Barbecue Pork Chops
There are several ways to cook applesauce barbecue pork chops, depending on your personal preference and available equipment. The most common cooking methods include grilling, baking, or pan-searing. When grilling pork chops, it is important to preheat the grill to medium-high heat, and then cook the pork chops for several minutes on each side, flipping them occasionally to ensure even cooking. When baking pork chops, it is important to preheat the oven to the desired temperature and then bake the pork chops for 20-30 minutes, or until they reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit. In pan-searing pork chops, a hot skillet is used to sear the outside of the chops, and then they are finished cooking in the oven or on the stovetop.
Applesauce Barbecue Pork Chops Recipe Variations
There are many variations of applesauce barbecue pork chops recipes, each with its unique twist on the classic flavors. Some use honey, brown sugar, or maple syrup to add additional sweetness to the marinade or glaze. Others use a combination of apple juice, apple cider vinegar, and soy sauce to create an umami-rich base for the marinade. To add a bit of heat, some recipes call for the addition of cayenne pepper, chili powder, or red pepper flakes. Finally, some recipes use ingredients like garlic, onion, and mustard to add depth and complexity to the marinade or glaze.
Serving Applesauce Barbecue Pork Chops
Applesauce barbecue pork chops are a hearty and satisfying meal that pairs well with a variety of side dishes. Some popular side dishes to serve with these pork chops include roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, or green beans. Additionally, a warm, crusty bread or dinner roll is the perfect accompaniment to sop up any remaining sauce or gravy.
