The dish is typically made up of mashed potatoes, crispy bacon, and scallions. The potatoes are usually cooked in butter to provide a smooth and creamy texture, and are seasoned with salt and pepper to enhance their flavor. Mashed potatoes are a classic side dish that can complement any meal. Adding bacon and scallions to mashed potatoes takes them to a whole new level. One of the most popular recipes for this delicious and savory side dish is the "Applebees Bacon Scallion Mashed Potatoes" recipe. This recipe is an excellent choice for a comfort food meal that will be enjoyed by everyone. Here are some valuable tips to consider when making the Applebees Bacon Scallion Mashed Potatoes recipe.

Tip #1: Choosing the Right Potatoes

The main ingredient in the Applebees Bacon Scallion Mashed Potatoes recipe is the potatoes. It is essential to choose the right potatoes when making mashed potatoes. The ideal potatoes for mashed potatoes are starchy potatoes such as Russet or Idaho potatoes. These potatoes have a high starch content, which makes them fluffy and easy to mash. On the other hand, waxy potatoes like Yukon gold or red potatoes have a lower starch content and can become gluey or clumpy when mashed, making them unsuitable for mashed potatoes.

Tip #2: Cooking the Potatoes

Cooking the potatoes correctly is the key to making smooth and creamy mashed potatoes. To start, wash the potatoes thoroughly, peel if desired, and cut them into small pieces. Cover the pieces with water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium and cook until the potatoes are fork-tender. Drain the potatoes well and return them to the saucepan. Cook them over low heat for about a minute to remove any excess moisture.

Tip #3: Adding the Cream and Butter

The secret to creamy mashed potatoes is adding the right amount of cream and butter. Adding too much cream and butter can make the mashed potatoes too runny, while not adding enough can make them too dry. To begin, melt the butter and add it to the mashed potatoes while they are still hot. Mix them well until the butter is fully incorporated. Next, slowly pour the cream into the potatoes while mixing them. Keep adding the cream until the mashed potatoes reach the desired consistency.

Tip #4: Cooking the Bacon and Scallions

Cooking the bacon and scallions correctly is crucial for this recipe because they add a lot of flavor to the mashed potatoes. The bacon should be cooked until crispy and golden brown. Then, remove the bacon from the pan and drain it on a paper towel. Chop the bacon into small pieces and set it aside. In the same pan, sauté the sliced scallions until they are tender and slightly caramelized. This process will release their sweetness and flavor, making them the perfect addition to the mashed potatoes.

Tip #5: Seasoning the Mashed Potatoes

Seasoning the mashed potatoes correctly is essential to bring out the flavors of all the ingredients. To start, add some salt and pepper to the mashed potatoes and mix well. Taste the mashed potatoes and adjust the seasoning as needed. Keep in mind that the bacon and scallions will add some saltiness to the mashed potatoes, so it's best to add the salt gradually.
Conclusion
The Applebees Bacon Scallion Mashed Potatoes recipe is a crowd-pleaser and always a hit at any dinner party. By following these valuable tips, you can make the perfect mashed potatoes every time. Remember to choose the right potatoes, cook them correctly, add the cream and butter gradually, cook the bacon and scallions to perfection, and season the mashed potatoes correctly. With these tips, you'll be able to make a delicious and satisfying side dish that everyone will love.
