Categories     Dessert     Apple

Number Of Ingredients 5

•4 Mission® Large/Burrito Flour Tortillas
•1/2 Can of Fried Apples (or apple pie filling)
•1 cup Sugar
•Cinnamon (to taste)
•4 tbsp or 1/2 stick Butter (approx)

Steps:

  • 1Turn broiler on to preheat 2Prepare cinnamon & sugar mixture: Pour cup of sugar onto a plate (or in a bag) and sprinkle cinnamon to your liking. Mix sugar and cinnamon together 3Chop or cut up fried apples into tiny squares. I used a chopper to get apples small. If using pie filling try to use more apples and less of the sauce 4Cut the edges off the tortilla to make a large square. Then cut the tortilla into four squares, each tortilla will make four Cinnamon Sugar Fried Apple Sticks 5Microwave 2 to 4 squares (the microwave softens the tortilla making it easier to roll and helps the butter melt) 6Butter one square and flip it over 7Place a small line of apples on the tortilla square. 8Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon & sugar mixture over the apples and your square (more if you like a heavier cinnamon flavor) 9Roll up apple in tortilla. 10Roll tortilla in cinnamon & sugar mixture (the butter should cause the mixture to stick) 11Place sticks on a greased cooking sheet. 12Broil until just starting to crisp. 3-5 minutes Hints: You can cut up the remaining pieces of tortilla, microwave, butter, and mix with the cinnamon & sugar make Cinnamon Sugar Chips if you would like.

APPLE SMILES

Another one of my no-flame-required, kid-friendly recipes. I remember making these in my after school program in grade school and loving them. They are a great wholesome activity for kids parties...just make sure an adult slices the apples. My favorite Apples to use are Pink Lady because the tart flavor is a nice compliment to the Peanut Butter. For a healthier variation, use cubed Slightly Green Bananas instead of Marshmallows...ripe bananas may be mushy. If you are worried about Peanut Butter allergies, substitute Cashew Nut butter as it is far less common to be allergic to.

Apple Smiles Recipe: Valuable Tips

Are you looking to make a fun and healthy snack for your kids? Look no further than apple smiles! These adorable snacks are easy to make and require only a few ingredients. However, to ensure that your apple smiles turn out perfectly, there are a few tips to keep in mind.
Tip #1: Choose the Right Apples
The first tip to keep in mind when making apple smiles is to choose the right type of apple. You want an apple that is firm, crisp, and has a slightly tart taste. Some good options include Granny Smith, Honey Crisp, or Pink Lady apples. These varieties will hold their shape well when sliced and won't turn mushy or brown quickly.
Tip #2: Slice the Apples Thinly
To make apple smiles, you will need to slice your apples into thin, circular pieces. Using a mandoline or a sharp knife, slice your apples as thinly as possible to ensure they are easy to bite through. If your apple slices are too thick, they may be tough to eat, and the smiles won't be as cute.
Tip #3: Soak the Apples in Lemon Juice
After slicing your apples, it's crucial to soak them in lemon juice. This step will help prevent the apples from turning brown before you're ready to assemble your apple smiles. Add a splash of lemon juice to a bowl of cold water and soak your apple slices for a few minutes. Then, rinse them with cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel.
Tip #4: Use Cream Cheese or Nut Spread as the "Glue"
To assemble your apple smiles, you will need to apply a "glue" to the apple slices. Cream cheese or nut spread are both excellent options that will add flavor and help keep the smiles together. Using a butter knife or a small spoon, spread the cream cheese or nut spread onto one side of an apple slice.
Tip #5: Add the "Teeth" and "Eyes"
The best part of making apple smiles is adding the "teeth" and "eyes" to make them look like adorable little mouths. For the teeth, you can use mini marshmallows or slivered almonds. Simply place them along the cream cheese or nut spread, leaving a little space between each one. For the eyes, you can use raisins, chocolate chips, or blueberries. Place them towards the top of the apple slice, above the teeth.
Tip #6: Serve Immediately
Once you've assembled your apple smiles, it's best to serve them immediately. If you need to store them for a short period of time, place them in an airtight container in the fridge until you're ready to serve. However, keep in mind that the apples will start to brown over time, so they won't look as fresh and vibrant.
Tip #7: Get Creative with Your Apple Smiles
While the traditional apple smile is made with cream cheese or nut spread, there are many other ways to get creative with your apple smiles. For example, you can add peanut butter or almond butter to the cream cheese or nut spread for a different flavor. You can also use sliced strawberries or grapes for the "teeth" in place of marshmallows or almonds. Don't be afraid to experiment and make your apple smiles unique and fun! In conclusion, making apple smiles is a fantastic way to get your kids excited about healthy snacks. By following these tips, you can ensure that your apple smiles turn out perfectly every time. With a little creativity, you can create unique and adorable smiles that your kids will love.
