Time 2h20m

Number Of Ingredients 15

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus more for dish
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
3 large eggs
8 ounces brioche, cut into 1-inch cubes (6 cups)
2/3 cup light brown sugar
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons pure vanilla
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, quartered, cored, and sliced crosswise in 1/4-inch thick pieces (2 cups)
Turbinado sugar, for sprinkling (optional)
Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees with rack set in the lower third of the oven. Lightly butter a 9-inch pie plate; set aside.

  • Bake, covered with parchment-lined foil, for 45 minutes (with a parchment-lined baking sheet placed at the bottom of the oven to catch drips). Uncover and continue to bake until bread pudding is golden brown and set in the center, 30 to 35 minutes more. Let sit on a wire rack 10 to 20 minutes before serving with ice cream. Bread pudding is best served warm, but can be kept refrigerated, tightly covered, up to 3 days.

When it comes to desserts, bread pudding and custard are two classics that have stood the test of time. So when you combine these two, you get apple custard bread pudding cups – a truly indulgent dessert that is perfect for any occasion. In this article, you will learn valuable tips for making the perfect apple custard bread pudding cups recipe. Tip 1: Choose the Right Bread The bread is the most important component of any bread pudding recipe, and apple custard bread pudding cups are no exception. It is essential to choose the right bread to ensure that your dessert has the right texture and flavor. For this recipe, it is recommended to use a dense bread such as brioche or challah, as they absorb the custard mixture well and provide a soft, buttery texture. Tip 2: Prepare the Apples Thoroughly The apple flavor is the star of this recipe, so it is essential to prepare them thoroughly. Whether you are using fresh or canned apples, ensure that they are thinly sliced or chopped into small pieces. Apples are naturally sweet, but if you want to enhance their flavor, you can add a touch of cinnamon, nutmeg, or allspice. Tip 3: Use Good Quality Dairy Products Dairy products such as milk and cream play a vital role in the custard mixture. It is recommended to use good quality milk and cream to achieve a rich and creamy texture. It is also essential to use full-fat milk and cream, as reduced-fat versions may not work as well and may result in a less rich custard. Tip 4: Don't Overcook the Custard One of the biggest issues that many people have with bread pudding is that the custard mixture can become overcooked and curdled. To avoid this, it is recommended to cook the custard mixture slowly and at a low temperature. Stirring the mixture constantly will also help to prevent it from curdling. Tip 5: Cool the Pudding Cups Before Serving After the bread pudding cups are baked, it is essential to allow them to cool for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the custard to set and the pudding cups to firm up. The best way to serve these delicious desserts is to top them with a dollop of whipped cream or a dusting of powdered sugar. Tip 6: Experiment with Variations While the classic apple custard bread pudding cups are delicious, it is always fun to experiment with variations. For example, you can swap apples for other fruits such as pears or berries. You can also experiment with different types of bread and spices to create unique flavor combinations. Conclusion: Apple custard bread pudding cups are a delightful dessert that can be enjoyed by everyone. By following the tips provided in this article, you can make a delicious and foolproof recipe that is sure to impress. From choosing the right bread to experimenting with variations, these tips will help you create a dessert that is perfect for any occasion.
