APPLE CRISP WITH OAT TOPPING

Apple Crisp with Oat Topping image

This is the best dessert for the early fall when the sweet and firm apples are just in season. Use the best quality cinnamon you can get and get it from a spice merchant or even a store where you can get it bulk; it does make a difference. Within ten minutes of going in the oven the scent will fill the house and neighbors you loaned things to years ago will return them just to invite themselves in and wonder aloud if there is any left (Note: there isn't). Optional accompaniments would be caramel sauce, ice cream, and whipped cream.

Apple crisp is a classic dessert that is beloved by many. It is a simple and easy-to-prepare dessert that can be served on any occasion. One of the variations of apple crisp that has become increasingly popular is the apple crisp with oatmeal cookie crust recipes. This dessert combines two of the most popular desserts: apple crisp and oatmeal cookies. The result is a delicious and comforting dessert that will satisfy your sweet cravings. Here are some valuable tips to ensure that your apple crisp with oatmeal cookie crust recipe turns out perfectly every time.

Choosing the Right Apples

The first tip for making a great apple crisp with oatmeal cookie crust recipe is to choose the right type of apples. Different types of apples have different textures and levels of sweetness, so it's important to choose the one that will hold up well in the baking process. Apples that are too soft or too sweet will become mushy when baked and will not hold their shape. The best apples for an apple crisp with oatmeal cookie crust are firm and tart apples, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn apples. These apples will hold their shape and balance the sweetness of the oatmeal cookie crust.

Preparing the Apples

The next step in making an apple crisp with oatmeal cookie crust recipe is to prepare the apples. Start by peeling, coring, and slicing the apples into thin slices. It's important to make sure that the apple slices are uniform in size so that they bake evenly. You can use a mandoline or a sharp knife to slice the apples. After you've sliced the apples, toss them with some lemon juice to prevent them from turning brown.

Making the Oatmeal Cookie Crust

The oatmeal cookie crust is what sets this recipe apart from a traditional apple crisp. It's important to make sure that the crust is crisp, buttery, and loaded with oats. To make the crust, start by combining flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Mix well, and then add softened butter. Use a pastry cutter, a fork, or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse sand. The oatmeal cookie crust should be moist enough to hold together but not too dry.

Assembling the Apple Crisp

Now that you've prepared the apples and the oatmeal cookie crust, it's time to assemble the apple crisp. Start by greasing a baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Then, spread out the apple slices evenly in the baking dish. Sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon on top of the apple slices. Next, spoon the oatmeal cookie crust mixture on top of the apples, making sure to cover them completely. Press down lightly with your hands to make sure the crust is tightly packed. You can also sprinkle some additional oats on top for a crunchy texture.

Baking the Apple Crisp

The last step in making an apple crisp with oatmeal cookie crust recipe is to bake it. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the apple crisp for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender. You can test the apples' readiness by inserting a toothpick or a knife into the apples. If they're tender, they're ready.

Conclusion

Making an apple crisp with oatmeal cookie crust recipe is a delicious and comforting dessert that's perfect for any occasion. By following these valuable tips, you'll have a perfect apple crisp with a buttery, crisp oatmeal cookie crust and tender, tart apples. Whether you're serving it at a dinner party or enjoying it on your own, this recipe will become a family-favorite.
