1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup flour
1 tbsp granulated sugar
Pinch of salt
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 tbsp honey
2 eggs
1/2 cup sour cream or plain whole milk yogurt
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 tsp lemon juice
2 medium apples, peeled
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp lemon juice

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and begin making the crumble topping.
  • In a small mixing bowl, add together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Using a fork, stir together, breaking up any lumps from the brown sugar.
  • In a microwavable bowl, melt 4 tablespoons or ¼ cup of butter (about 30 seconds). Pour over the sugar mixture with a small spatula and stir until smooth.
  • Add one tablespoon at a time of 1/2 cup of flour and lightly stir with the fork. Sprinkle granulated sugar over the crumble topping, lightly toss with a fork, and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg and whisk well for 30-60 seconds.
  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine the butter, brown sugar, and vanilla and beat using a hand mixer or stand mixer until smooth.
  • Add the eggs and honey, continuing to beat.
  • Finally, add the sour cream, buttermilk, and lemon juice until smooth. Set aside.
  • Using your peeled apples, dice into small squares.
  • In a small bowl, toss with sugar, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Set aside.
  • Combine your wet and dry ingredients using a spatula or rubber scraper to create the muffin batter without over mixing it. Add half of your apple filling and gently fold into the batter.
  • Using an ice cream scooper, spoon the muffin batter into a degreased muffin tray (you should have about four muffins worth of batter leftover). Spoon the remaining apples onto the tops of the muffin batter and gently press down.
  • Using a tablespoon, sprinkle your crumble mixture over the tops of the muffins.
  • Once you've put your muffins into the oven, immediately lower the temperature to 350 degrees.
  • Bake for 14-17 minutes, rotating tray once halfway. Move the muffins to a cooling rack as soon as they're ready, let cool, and enjoy!

If you are looking to make Apple Cinnamon Sour Cream Muffins, then you are in for a treat. These muffins are a perfect blend of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors that make them an ideal snack or breakfast option. However, making these muffins can be a bit challenging, especially if you are new to baking. Thankfully, in this article, we will provide you with valuable tips that can help you make the perfect Apple Cinnamon Sour Cream Muffins.

1. Use Fresh Ingredients

Fresh ingredients are the key to making any dish, and Apple Cinnamon Sour Cream Muffins are no exception. Using fresh and high-quality ingredients will give you the best results. To ensure the freshness of the ingredients, make sure you buy them from a trusted supplier. Also, check the expiry date and storage instructions of the ingredients before buying them.

2. Use the Right Apples

The choice of apples you use in making Apple Cinnamon Sour Cream Muffins is critical. Tart apples like Granny Smith, Cortland, or Braeburn are the best choice. They have a firm texture that holds up well during baking and offers a good balance of sweetness and tartness.

3. Measure Ingredients Accurately

Accurate measurement of ingredients is crucial when baking. Use measuring cups, spoons, or a kitchen scale to measure the ingredients precisely. An imbalance in the ingredient ratio can affect the taste, texture, and overall quality of your muffins.

4. Don't Overmix the Batter

Overmixing the batter can lead to tough and dry muffins. As a rule of thumb, mix the dry and wet ingredients until they are just combined. A few lumps in the batter are okay, and they will add some texture to your muffins. If you are using an electric mixer, use the lowest speed setting to avoid overmixing the batter.

5. Let Your Batter Rest

Letting your batter rest for a few minutes before baking is crucial. Resting allows gluten formation, which results in fluffy and moist muffins. If possible, let the batter rest for 20-30 minutes before baking.

6. Use Muffin Liners or Grease Your Muffin Tin

Using muffin liners or greasing the muffin tin is essential to prevent the muffins from sticking. If you are using muffin liners, make sure they fit snugly into the muffin tin cups. If you are greasing the muffin tin, use cooking spray or butter.

7. Bake Your Muffins at the Right Temperature

Baking your muffins at the right temperature is vital. Preheat your oven for about 10-15 minutes before baking to ensure even heat distribution. Bake your muffins at 375°F for about 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Overbaking will result in dry and tough muffins, while underbaking will make them gooey and mushy.

8. Let Your Muffins Cool Down

Allow your muffins to cool for a few minutes before removing them from the muffin tin. Cooling allows the muffins to set and prevent them from falling apart. After removing them from the muffin tin, let them cool completely on a wire rack before storing them.

9. Store Your Muffins Properly

Proper storage is essential in keeping your muffins fresh and moist. Store your muffins in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. You can also freeze them in a freezer bag for up to three months. When reheating, microwave them for a few seconds, or warm them in the oven at 350°F for about five minutes.

Conclusion

Making Apple Cinnamon Sour Cream Muffins is easy if you follow these valuable tips. Remember to use fresh ingredients, measure accurately, let your batter rest, bake at the right temperature, and store properly. With these tips, you can make fluffy, moist, and delicious muffins that everyone will love.
