APPLE CINNAMON CHEESE BALL

Apple Cinnamon Cheese Ball image

One of my friends made something similar to this at a party, and I loved it. I asked for the recipe but lost it, and ended up trying to make it by memory. It may not be the original recipe, but its darn good! It has a sweeter taste than your average cheese ball. Excellent with Sesame Seed Crackers.

This is an adorable little appetizer that's fun to make, fun to show off, and fun to eat. And it's tasty to boot. I understand this came from Southern Living, October 1998. Be sure to soften the cream cheese beforehand for ease of processing.

CARAMEL APPLE CHEESE BALL

Caramel Apple Cheese Ball image

One of my favorite treats is caramel and apples, most usually just the store-bought caramel will do. I'm not terribly fussy when it comes to something like that. However, if I'm entertaining, which I used to do quite a bit, I want to go a bit farther than a tub of dip and a cut-up apple. This was delicious and when I read the recipe in gourmet class, could NOT wait to try it. The first time I got to sample it, I didn't make it; the girl next to me did. She didn't like it. I told her she was nuts. It's a bit unusual for a cheese ball, but hey, who says the norm is always the way to go?? The cheeseball is an alternative to "straight" dipping apples. I like to drizzle the caramel on top of the nuts when serving. I have also just spread the mixture on a graham cracker and topped with an apple slice. It's up to you to use the caramel. Passive time is refrigerator time, but is very approximate.

Apple cheese ball recipes are a type of snack or appetizer that combines the flavors of apples and cheese in a unique and delicious way. These recipes typically involve mixing together cream cheese and other ingredients, such as cheddar cheese and grated apples, and then shaping the mixture into a ball.

The History of Apple Cheese Ball Recipes

The origins of apple cheese ball recipes are unclear, but they likely have their roots in the tradition of serving cheese as a snack or appetizer. Cheese balls have been popular in the United States since at least the 1930s, and recipes for the classic cheese ball often include other ingredients like herbs, nuts, or dried fruit. The addition of apples to cheese ball recipes is a more recent innovation, likely stemming from the popularity of ingredients like apple pie and other apple-based desserts. This combination of sweet and savory flavors has proven to be a hit among many home cooks and party hosts.

How to Make an Apple Cheese Ball

While there are countless variations on apple cheese ball recipes, most follow a basic set of steps. Here is an example recipe:
Ingredients:
  • 1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup grated apple
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts work well)
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Dash of salt
  • Crackers, pretzels, or apple slices for serving
Instructions:
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, grated apple, chopped nuts, green onions, Worcestershire sauce, and salt. Stir until well-mixed, taking care not to overmix or the mixture will become too soft.
  2. Shape the mixture into a ball or other desired shape, then wrap tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or until firm.
  3. Once firm, remove the plastic wrap or foil, and place the cheese ball on a serving dish. Surround with crackers, pretzels, or apple slices for dipping or spreading.

Variations on Apple Cheese Ball Recipes

One of the great things about apple cheese ball recipes is their versatility. Here are a few ideas for ways to vary the recipe:
Switch up the nuts:
Instead of pecans or walnuts, try using almonds, cashews, or hazelnuts. You could also experiment with different types of nut butters, such as almond or cashew butter.
Use a different type of cheese:
While cheddar is a popular choice for apple cheese ball recipes, you could also try using other types of cheese. Havarti, gouda, or even blue cheese could work well.
Add other ingredients:
Experiment with adding other flavors to your cheese ball mixture. Dried cranberries, chopped bacon, or even diced jalapeños could add some zing to your recipe.
Make it a sweet treat:
For a dessert-style cheese ball, try adding sweet ingredients like caramel, cinnamon, or crushed graham crackers. You could also use a different type of fruit in place of the apple, such as peaches, strawberries, or cherries.

Conclusion

Apple cheese ball recipes are a fun and delicious way to enjoy two classic flavors in one bite. Whether you follow a traditional recipe or experiment with your own variations, these snacks are sure to be a crowd-pleaser at your next party or get-together.

Valuable Tips for Making Apple Cheese Ball Recipes

Apple cheese ball recipes are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer that is perfect for any occasion. Whether you are hosting a party, family gathering, or simply want a tasty snack to enjoy, these recipes are a crowd-pleaser. Here are some valuable tips to keep in mind when making apple cheese ball recipes:
Choose the right type of apples
The type of apple you choose for your recipe can make a big difference in the overall taste and texture of your cheese ball. Granny Smith apples are a popular choice because of their tartness and firmness, which complement the creamy texture of the cheese. However, if you prefer a sweeter taste, you can also go for Honeycrisp or Pink Lady apples.
Get the right consistency
The consistency of the cheese mixture is key to creating the perfect apple cheese ball. You want it to be firm enough to hold its shape but soft enough to be easily spreadable. Make sure to let the cream cheese soften at room temperature before mixing it with the other ingredients. Add the grated cheese gradually, stirring well after each addition, until you have achieved the desired consistency.
Add additional flavors
You can add additional flavors to your apple cheese ball recipe to complement the flavor of the apples and the cheese. Some popular options include chopped herbs, like chives or parsley, or spices, like garlic powder or paprika. These can add an additional layer of flavor and complexity to your cheese ball.
Use creative coatings
The coating of your apple cheese ball can be an opportunity to get creative and add some additional texture and flavor. Crushed nuts, like pecans or walnuts, can add a crunchy texture to your cheese ball, while bacon bits can add a smoky flavor. You can also use finely chopped herbs or spices to add a pop of color to your cheese ball.
Refrigerate before serving
Once you have formed your apple cheese ball and coated it in your chosen ingredients, make sure to refrigerate it for at least an hour before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the cheese mixture to firm up, making it easier to slice and serve. You can even make your apple cheese ball a day in advance and store it in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve.
Serve with accompaniments
To really take your apple cheese ball to the next level, consider serving it with some accompaniments. Sliced apples, crackers, or baguette slices make great vehicles for scooping up the creamy cheese and apple mixture. You can also add some additional flavor by serving it with a sweet or savory jam, like fig jam or cranberry sauce.
Experiment with different ingredients
One of the best things about apple cheese ball recipes is that they are incredibly versatile. You can experiment with different types of cheese, like blue cheese or goat cheese, or add in other ingredients, like dried cranberries or chopped bacon. Don't be afraid to get creative and try new combinations until you find the perfect recipe for you. In conclusion, apple cheese ball recipes are a delicious and simple appetizer that can be customized to suit your taste preferences. By keeping these valuable tips in mind, you can create a cheese ball that is flavorful, creamy, and sure to impress your guests.
