Apple cheddar turkey burgers are a delicious and unique twist on the classic beef burger. This burger recipe adds a sweet and tangy flavor to the savory taste of turkey burgers. The addition of apples and cheddar cheese make this dish both savory and sweet, creating a perfect balance of flavors.

The ingredients

The ingredients for apple cheddar turkey burgers typically include ground turkey, diced apples, grated cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, and salt and pepper. The bread crumbs and egg serve as binders to help the burger patties stay together. The garlic adds a kick of flavor, while the salt and pepper enhance the overall taste.

The preparation

The preparation for apple cheddar turkey burgers involves chopping the apples into small pieces and grating the cheddar cheese. These ingredients are then mixed with the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, and salt and pepper. Once the mixture is thoroughly combined, it is formed into patties and cooked on a grill or stovetop.

Grilling on a grill

If cooking on a grill, the grill should be preheated to medium-high heat. The patties should be placed on the grill, and cooked for about five to six minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. The cheese should be added to the top of the patty during the last minute of cooking, allowing it to melt over the burger.

Cooking on a stovetop

If cooking on a stovetop, a large skillet should be heated over medium-high heat. The patties should be added to the skillet and cooked for about five to six minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. The cheese should be added to the top of the patty during the last minute of cooking, allowing it to melt over the burger.

Serving suggestions

Apple cheddar turkey burgers can be served on a classic hamburger bun, or on a whole wheat bun for a healthier option. They can be garnished with lettuce, tomato, and avocado slices, or a variety of other toppings, such as caramelized onions or spicy mayo. The addition of a side dish, such as sweet potato fries or a green salad, can complete the meal.

Benefits

Apple cheddar turkey burgers are a great option for those looking for a healthier alternative to traditional beef burgers. Ground turkey is leaner than beef, and the addition of apples and cheese adds essential vitamins and minerals to the dish. Apples are high in fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants, while cheese is a good source of calcium and protein.

Conclusion

Apple cheddar turkey burgers are a tasty and healthy alternative to traditional beef burgers. They are easy to prepare, and can be customized to individual preferences with various toppings and side dishes. Whether you are trying to eat healthier or just looking for a unique and delicious flavor combination, apple cheddar turkey burgers are a great choice!

When it comes to burgers, most people think of the classic beef burger. However, turkey burgers have become increasingly popular in recent years due to their leaner and healthier profile. Adding apple and cheddar to your turkey burgers can add a delicious twist to a classic dish. Here are some valuable tips to keep in mind when making apple cheddar turkey burgers.

Choosing the Right Turkey

One of the most important factors in making a delicious turkey burger is selecting the right meat. It is recommended to choose ground turkey that is at least 90% lean, as this will ensure that the burgers are not too greasy. You can also choose to use ground turkey breast, which is lower in fat than regular ground turkey. If you prefer a juicier burger, you can consider mixing in a small amount of ground pork.

Adding Flavor and Moisture

Turkey can be dry if not cooked properly, so it's important to add moisture and flavor to your burger. One way to do this is by adding grated apple to the turkey mixture. This will add a natural sweetness and moisture to the burger while also keeping it lean. You can also add chopped herbs such as thyme or rosemary, or spices like cumin or paprika.
TIP:
Be sure to squeeze out any excess moisture from the grated apple before adding it to the turkey mixture.

Binding the Turkey

Since turkey is leaner than beef, it can be more difficult to bind together. To prevent the burger from falling apart on the grill, it is important to add a binding agent. Bread crumbs, oats, or even cooked rice can be added to the turkey mixture to help hold it together. You can also mix in a beaten egg, which will work as a binder and add extra moisture to the burger.
TIP:
Refrigerate the turkey mixture for at least 30 minutes before shaping it into patties. This will help the burger hold its shape and prevent it from falling apart on the grill.

Addition of Cheese

Adding cheddar cheese to the turkey burger will add an extra layer of flavor and richness. However, it's important not to add too much cheese, as it can overwhelm the flavor of the turkey. It is recommended to use about 1/4 cup of grated cheddar cheese for every pound of ground turkey. You can also use a sharp cheddar or a smoked variety for an extra layer of flavor.
TIP:
Chill the cheese in the refrigerator before grating it. This will make it easier to handle and prevent it from melting too quickly when added to the burger.

Grilling the Burger

Grilling is the best way to cook turkey burgers as it will give them a delicious smoky flavor. Preheat your grill to medium heat and oil the grates. Cook the burgers for about 5-6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. Avoid pressing down on the burgers too much as this will release the juices and dry them out.
TIP:
Make a small indent in the center of each patty before placing it on the grill. This will prevent the burger from puffing up in the middle as it cooks.

Serving Suggestions

Apple cheddar turkey burgers can be served on a variety of buns, such as whole wheat, brioche, or even lettuce wraps for a low-carb option. Top the burger with sliced apple, arugula, or even caramelized onions for added flavor and texture.
TIP:
Toast the buns on the grill for added flavor and crunch.

Conclusion

Adding apple and cheddar to your turkey burgers is a delicious way to switch up the classic beef burger. Remember to choose lean ground turkey, add moisture and flavor to the burger, use a binding agent, and grill the burger to perfection. With these valuable tips, you'll have a delicious and juicy turkey burger in no time!
