KALE SALAD WITH APPLES AND CHEDDAR

Kale Salad With Apples and Cheddar image

For a kale salad to be successful, use the most tender kale you can find and cut it into very thin filaments or chop it very finely (or both). Curly kale and Russian kale are more tender than black leaf kale. This is inspired by a wonderful salad I tried recently at the New York restaurant Northern Spy.

Tips for Making Apple Cheddar Salad

Apple cheddar salad with sweet cream vinaigrette recipes is an ideal summer salad that is easy to make and perfect for picnics, outdoor gatherings, or a quick lunch. The combination of apples, fresh greens, and cheddar cheese give this salad a unique flavor that is satisfying and healthy at the same time. Here are some valuable tips to help you make the perfect apple cheddar salad with sweet cream vinaigrette:
1. Choosing the Right Apples
Choosing the right apples is crucial in making an apple cheddar salad. A crisp and tart apple like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp is ideal as it adds a tangy and refreshing flavor to the salad. Make sure to slice the apples thinly to allow them to blend well with the other ingredients.
2. Using Fresh Greens
The freshness of the greens used will also affect the taste of the salad. It is best to use a mixture of baby greens like arugula, spinach, and kale for a nutrient-rich salad. Ensure that the greens are clean, dry, and free from blemishes.
3. Adding Cheddar Cheese
Cheddar cheese is a staple ingredient that adds a rich and nutty flavor to the salad. It is best to choose a sharp or extra sharp cheddar cheese as it counters the sweetness of the apple and creaminess of the dressing. Grate the cheese finely, and consider reserving some extra cheese to sprinkle as a garnish.
4. Adding Nuts or Seeds
Adding nuts like walnuts, pecans, or seeds like pepitas or sunflower seeds adds texture and crunch to the salad. Toast the nuts or seeds for a few minutes in a pan to bring out their flavor and aroma.
5. Preparing the Dressing
Sweet cream vinaigrette is a mild and tangy dressing that adds a creamy finish to the salad. It is best to keep it simple by using only a few ingredients such as olive oil, lemon juice or vinegar, honey, and cream. Whisk the ingredients together until smooth and creamy.
6. Assembling the Salad
Assembling the salad can be done in layers or mixed together. Either way, ensure that the greens are evenly coated with the dressing and the ingredients are evenly distributed. It is best to mix the salad just before serving to prevent the greens from getting soggy.
7. Adding Protein
If you want to add some protein to the salad, you can add diced cooked chicken, tofu, or hard-boiled eggs. This will make the salad more filling and nutritious.
8. Garnishing the Salad
Garnish the salad with extra cheese, nuts or seeds, and some cracked pepper. A few sprigs of fresh herbs like parsley, basil or cilantro also add a fresh touch to the salad.
9. Serving the Salad
Serve the salad chilled or at room temperature. It pairs well with other summer favorites like grilled chicken or fish, fresh fruit, and a glass of white wine.
10. Storing the Salad
Apple cheddar salad with sweet cream vinaigrette can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. If possible, store the dressing separately and add it just before serving to prevent the greens from getting soggy.

Conclusion

In conclusion, making an apple cheddar salad with sweet cream vinaigrette is easy and can be done in under 30 minutes. With fresh greens, tart apples, sharp cheddar cheese, nuts, and a creamy dressing, this salad is sure to become one of your summer favorites. Remember to use these valuable tips to ensure that you make the perfect apple cheddar salad with sweet cream vinaigrette every time.
