Time 45m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

6 medium baking apples, such as Boskop, Braeburn, Fuji, or Gala
4 to 6 dried figs
1/4 cup chopped almonds, toasted
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon heavy cream or creme fraiche
Juice of 1 lemon
Serving suggestion: cinnamon whipped cream or creme fraiche

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Core the apples. Using a paring knife, score a ring around the midriff of each apple, just cutting through the skin to prevent the apples from bursting during baking. Stuff the apples with the figs and almonds. Set on a baking sheet, and bake until puffed up and soft all the way through, about 30 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, put the sugar in a saucepan with a spoonful of water, and boil to a golden caramel, about 5 minutes, depending on how much water you've added. Do not stir the sugar with a spoon, gently swirl the saucepan over the heat until the desired color. You want a nice rich caramel color, but don't let it get too dark.
  • Serve the baked apples warm from the oven with the sauce poured over and with a generous slump of cinnamon whipped cream or creme fraiche on the side.

How to Make Apple Blintzes with Caramel Sauce

Making apple blintzes with caramel sauce is relatively simple, but it does require a bit of preparation. Here are the key steps to making this delicious dish:
The Blintz Batter

  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
To make the blintz batter, whisk the eggs in a large mixing bowl until beaten. Add the flour, milk, salt, sugar, and melted butter and whisk until a smooth batter forms. • 2 large apples, peeled and diced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
To make the filling, melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and raisins (if using). Cook the mixture for 5-7 minutes or until the apples are tender and the sugar has dissolved.

Valuable Tips When Making Apple Blintzes with Caramel Sauce Recipes

As a dessert lover, have you ever tried making apple blintzes with caramel sauce? This delicious dish is perfect for satisfying your sweet cravings with its crispy edges, soft apple filling, and rich caramel sauce. However, just like any dish, making this dessert requires some tips to make it perfect. Here are some valuable tips when making apple blintzes with caramel sauce recipes:
Tip #1: Get the right pan
When making apple blintzes, it is important to use the right pan. Typically, non-stick pans are the best choice since they allow the blintzes to cook evenly without sticking to the surface, making them easier to flip. It is also important to make sure that the pan is not too big or too small, as the size of the pan affects the thickness of the batter and the amount of filling.
Tip #2: Prepare the apples before cooking
Another important tip to remember when making apple blintzes is to prepare the apples before cooking. Peel and slice the apples into thin pieces to ensure they cook evenly in the pan. It is also important to add cinnamon and sugar to the apples for added flavor.
Tip #3: Mix the batter well
The batter is one of the most important aspects of apple blintzes because it is what makes the dish crispy and flavorful. To make sure the batter is well mixed, use a whisk to mix the ingredients thoroughly. It is important to avoid overmixing the batter because it can make it tough.
Tip #4: Use heat properly
The heat level is crucial when cooking apple blintzes. Too much heat can burn the blintzes, while too little heat can result in undercooked blintzes. A medium heat setting is usually the ideal level for cooking apple blintzes.
Tip #5: Cook the blintzes until crispy
To achieve the perfect apple blintzes, it is important to cook the blintzes until they are crispy. This is achieved by cooking the blintzes until both sides are browned and crisp. It is also important to flip the blintzes carefully to avoid breaking them.
Tip #6: Make the caramel sauce properly
A caramel sauce is one of the best accompaniments for apple blintzes. To make the sauce, it is important to use the right ingredients, including heavy cream, butter, and brown sugar. It is also important to cook the mixture over medium heat until it thickens and forms a rich caramel sauce.
Tip #7: Serve the blintzes fresh
The taste of apple blintzes is best when they are served fresh. This is because the batter becomes less crispy as it cools down. To enjoy the best taste, it is important to serve apple blintzes immediately after cooking them.
Tip #8: Be creative with the toppings
While caramel sauce is the traditional topping for apple blintzes, you can get creative with the toppings. You can add whipped cream, maple syrup, or even fresh fruits such as strawberries or blueberries to add extra flavor.
Tip #9: Experiment with different fillings
Apple filling is the most popular filling for apple blintzes, but you can experiment with different fillings such as blueberry, raspberry, or even peach. It is important to choose fillings that are not too watery because they can make the blintzes soggy.
Tip #10: Practice makes perfect
Making apple blintzes is not easy, but practice makes perfect. The more you make apple blintzes, the better you will become at making them. So, do not be discouraged if your first attempt is not perfect. Keep practicing, and you will eventually achieve the perfect apple blintzes. To sum it up, making apple blintzes with caramel sauce is not an easy task, but by following these valuable tips, you can make the perfect dish. Remember to use the right pan, prepare the apples properly, mix the batter well, use heat properly, cook the blintzes until crispy, make the caramel sauce properly, serve the blintzes fresh, be creative with the toppings, experiment with different fillings, and practice makes perfect.
