SIMPLE AND QUICK APPLE PUDDING

Simple and Quick Apple Pudding image

This is one of my Mom's recipes and one that both Dad and I really enjoyed. Always looked forward to the fall and apples from MacIntosh tree out back! Sometimes Mom called it Apple Pudding other times she called it Apple upside-down cake, either way it was a cake texture with baked apples and a carmel type sauce. Always a treat to come home from school and smell this in the oven! Serve it warm as is or with vanilla ice cream!

Apple batter pudding is a classic British dessert that involves baking diced apples in a sweet batter mixture. The result is a hot, steaming pudding with a crisp texture on the outside and gooey apple goodness on the inside. This recipe has been around for centuries, and is popular to this day due to its simplicity and amazing taste.

Ingredients

To make apple batter pudding, you will need the following ingredients:
  • 2 medium-sized apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
You can also add in other ingredients such as vanilla extract, ground cinnamon or nutmeg, and lemon juice to add a unique flavor to your pudding.

Preparation

To prepare the pudding, follow these simple steps:
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a 9-inch pie dish with butter, and set it aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until combined.
  4. Add in the milk, melted butter, and any other optional ingredients, and whisk until you have a smooth batter mixture.
  5. Gently fold in the diced apples with a spatula, making sure they are evenly coated with the batter.
  6. Pour the mixture into the greased pie dish, and bake for about 40-45 minutes, or until the pudding is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove the pudding from the oven, and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  8. Top the pudding with whipped cream, ice cream or caramel sauce to enhance the flavor.

Variations

There are several variations to the classic apple batter pudding recipe, including:
Upside-down pudding
This variation involves placing the diced apples at the bottom of the greased pie dish, and pouring the batter mixture on top. When the pudding is baked and inverted onto a plate, the apples will be on top and the batter will have caramelized and formed a crust on the bottom.
Custard pudding
For this variation, you can add a layer of custard on top of the apple batter before baking. This will create a creamy, luscious pudding that is perfect for those who love rich desserts.
Muffin-sized pudding
Instead of baking the pudding in a pie dish, you can pour the batter mixture into muffin cups and bake for about 12-15 minutes. This will create individual servings of pudding that are easy to serve and perfect for parties.

Conclusion

In conclusion, apple batter pudding is a delicious, easy-to-make dessert that will please any crowd. It can be served hot or cold, and is perfect for any occasion. So next time you have some apples lying around, give this recipe a try and enjoy the wonderful taste of sweet, fluffy pudding with a warm apple filling.

Valuable Tips When Making Apple Batter Pudding Recipes

Apple batter pudding is a traditional dessert that has been enjoyed by many people for centuries. The recipe is simple, but there are a few valuable tips that you need to keep in mind to ensure that your apple batter pudding turns out perfectly.
Tip #1: Select the right apples
The type of apple you use in your batter pudding can have a significant impact on its flavor and texture. It is important to select apples that are tart and firm, such as Granny Smith apples, as they hold their shape well during baking and provide a nice tart contrast to the sweet batter. Other good options for baking include Honeycrisp or a mix of Golden Delicious and Braeburn apples.
Tip #2: Prepare your ingredients in advance
One of the most important things you can do when making apple batter pudding is to prepare all of your ingredients in advance. This includes prepping your apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them, measuring out your dry and wet ingredients, and preparing any necessary garnishes.
Tip #3: Use a deep, oven-safe dish
Because the batter will rise during baking, it is important to use a deep, oven-safe dish that will allow for the expansion of the pudding. A ceramic or glass baking dish that is at least 2 inches deep is ideal for this recipe.
Tip #4: Mix the batter thoroughly
To ensure a smooth and even texture in your batter, it is important to mix all of the ingredients thoroughly. Start by whisking together the dry ingredients, then add the wet ingredients and whisk until smooth. Be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl to make sure all ingredients are well incorporated.
Tip #5: Layer the apples evenly
When layering the apples in the baking dish, it is important to do so evenly so that each slice is coated in batter. Make sure to overlap the apple slices slightly to create a uniform layer.
Tip #6: Bake at the right temperature and time
The proper baking time and temperature is critical to ensure that your apple batter pudding cooks evenly and is not over or undercooked. Generally, the pudding should be baked for around 45-50 minutes at 375°F (190°C). Keep an eye on the pudding during the last few minutes of baking to make sure it does not burn.
Tip #7: Let it cool before serving
Allow the apple batter pudding to cool for at least 10-15 minutes before serving. This will make it easier to slice and serve, and will also give the pudding time to set properly.
Tip #8: Serve with ice cream or whipped cream
Apple batter pudding is delicious on its own, but it can also be served with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The cool cream or ice cream provides a nice contrast to the warm and sweet pudding, creating a delicious and satisfying dessert experience. In conclusion, these valuable tips will help you create a delicious and perfect apple batter pudding recipe every time. Remember to select the right apples, prepare your ingredients in advance, use a deep, oven-safe dish, mix the batter thoroughly, layer the apples evenly, bake at the right temperature and time, let it cool before serving, and serve with ice cream or whipped cream for a dessert that is sure to impress.
