Time 1h30m

Yield 5

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 skinless, boneless chicken breasts, or more to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, chopped
1 cup sliced olives
1 (7 ounce) can chopped green chiles, drained
¾ cup water
1 (1 ounce) package taco seasoning
1 (8 ounce) package shredded Mexican cheese blend
10 (6 inch) flour tortillas

Steps:

  • Place chicken in a single layer in the bottom of a large saucepan. Pour in cool water until chicken is covered by 1 inch. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to a simmer, cover, and cook until no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear, 10 to 14 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). Transfer chicken to a cutting board and shred meat with 2 forks when cool enough to handle. Discard poaching liquid.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat; add onion. Cook and stir until the onion has softened and turned translucent, about 5 minutes. Add shredded chicken, olives, chiles, water, and taco seasoning; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes. Add Mexican cheese and stir until melted. Remove from heat.
  • Warm tortillas on a griddle over medium-high heat until soft, about 10 seconds per side. Add chicken filling to each tortilla, roll up tightly, and place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until edges are brown, about 30 minutes.

Valuable Tips When Making Appetizer Essentials Sausage Cheese Taquitos Recipes

When it comes to appetizers, one recipe that is guaranteed to be a hit is the sausage cheese taquitos. These cheesy, savory bites are perfect for parties, game nights, or just a Saturday night at home. They are easy to make, customizable, and best of all, delicious. In this article, we will share valuable tips on how to make appetizer essentials sausage cheese taquitos recipes.
1. Use High-Quality Ingredients
It all starts with using the highest-quality ingredients you can afford. From the sausage to the cheese to the tortillas, each element contributes to the overall flavor and texture of the taquitos. Invest in good-quality, uncooked sausage from a reputable brand or local butcher. As for the cheese, opt for a variety of shredded cheese that melts well, such as Monterey Jack or cheddar.
2. Season the Filling Well
The filling for the sausage cheese taquitos should be well-seasoned with spices such as chili powder, cumin, and paprika to give it an extra kick of flavor. Salt and pepper should also be added to taste. Don't forget to also add any additional ingredients you like, such as diced onions, garlic, or jalapenos.
3. Cook the Sausage Thoroughly
When cooking the sausage for the filling, make sure to cook it thoroughly. Sausage should reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit before it is safe to consume. Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the sausage is cooked through.
4. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit before baking the taquitos. This ensures that the oven is at the desired temperature when the taquitos go in, resulting in crispy, golden-brown taquitos.
5. Use Soft Tortillas
To make the taquitos, use soft tortillas that are pliable enough to be rolled into taquitos. Corn or flour tortillas work, but it's important to warm them up for a few seconds in the microwave or on the stovetop to make them more pliable.
6. Use Toothpicks or Skewers
To keep the taquitos from unraveling during baking, use toothpicks or skewers to hold them in place. Place the toothpicks in the center of the taquito and remove them once the taquitos are fully cooked.
7. Brush with Oil
Brushing the taquitos with oil before baking them helps them get crispy and golden brown. Use a pastry brush to lightly coat the taquitos with oil on all sides.
8. Bake Until Golden Brown
Bake the taquitos for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. If you prefer a softer texture, you can bake them for less time.
9. Serve with Dipping Sauce
Sausage cheese taquitos are delicious on their own, but they are even better when served with a dipping sauce. Some popular options include salsa, guacamole, sour cream, or queso dip.
10. Make Ahead of Time
You can make the taquitos ahead of time and freeze them for later use. To do this, roll the taquitos as directed and line them up on a baking sheet. Place in the freezer for an hour until they are frozen solid, then transfer them to a freezer-safe container or bag. When you're ready to bake them, preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until they are heated through and crispy.

Conclusion

Sausage cheese taquitos are a versatile appetizer that can be customized to your liking. With these valuable tips, you can make taquitos that are full of flavor and have the perfect texture. Whether you're hosting a party or just having a night in with family or friends, these tasty bites are sure to be a hit.
