ANY FLAVOR CAKE MIX COOKIES

Any Flavor Cake Mix Cookies image

Very simple recipe to turn your favorite flavor cake mix into perfect cookies! (You know, the kind with a nice cracked pattern on top, and a tiny bit of almost under done center). We went on a diet so I no longer keep white flour in the house, however a single cake mix managed to elude me. I found it when I was looking for something to bring to church. Now I keep a cake mix for bringing cookies, it's a lot less dangerous than a bag of flour! (Its best with a mix that has pudding in it for chewiness; you can also use the dry ingredients from your favorite from scratch recipe).

Time 15m

Yield 24 cookies, 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 (18 ounce) box cake mix (any flavor but angel food)
2 eggs
1/2-3/4 cup Crisco

Steps:

  • Toss all ingredients into a bowl, using enough Crisco to form a stiff dough. (I found it to take less time than pulling my mixer out, so I mix by hand).
  • Form into little balls, place on a baking sheet 2 inches apart, gently flatten the balls, and bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes, till puffy, and just barely golden around the edges. (They do spread a little while baking).
  • Remove from heat, cool 5 minutes before removing to a rack to cool. (Okay, I didn't use a rack the second time, they still turned out great!) They will shrink down a little in height and form a perfect cookie!

HELOISE'S CAKE MIX COOKIES

Heloise's Cake Mix Cookies image

Fast and easy when you don't have enough time to prepare cookies from scratch. If you mix them by hand, they will be flatter and more like a cookie. If you use a mixer, they will be puffier and more like cake. The cake-like version is good with a simple confectioner sugar & milk (or juice if you used an orange or lemon cake mix) glaze.

Valuable Tips When Making Any Flavor Cake Mix Cookies Recipes

Have you ever had a sudden craving for something sweet and had limited ingredients in your pantry? Cake mix cookies may be the solution to your problem. They are easy to make and require only a few ingredients, making them a quick and effortless dessert option. Cake mix cookies are versatile and allow you to experiment with various flavors, presenting a great opportunity for customization. Here are some valuable tips to keep in mind when making any flavor cake mix cookies recipes.
Tip 1: Choose the Right Cake Mix
The primary ingredient in cake mix cookies is, of course, cake mix. You need to pay attention to the type of cake mix you choose since the flavor of the cake mix will dictate the overall taste of your cookies. You can use any flavor of cake mix, ranging from chocolate, vanilla, lemon, and strawberry, among others. Ensure that the cake mix you choose is fresh and has not expired.
Tip 2: Add-In Ingredients
You can add different ingredients, such as chocolate chips or nuts, to enhance the taste and texture of your cake mix cookies. However, you need to ensure that your add-ins do not overpower the flavor of the cake mix. A general rule of thumb is to add approximately one cup of add-ins for every box of cake mix used. Also, ensure that your add-ins are evenly distributed throughout the cookie dough.
Tip 3: Mixing the Dough
When mixing the cookie dough, do not overmix it as this can make the cookies tough and chewy. Only mix the ingredients until they are combined, ensuring that you do not leave any pockets of dry cake mix. Using an electric mixer on low speed can help achieve this, allowing you to blend your ingredients efficiently.
Tip 4: Chill the Dough
Chilling the cookie dough is essential as it prevents the cookies from spreading too much during baking, resulting in perfectly shaped cookies. Place the cookie dough in the fridge for about 30 minutes to an hour, allowing the dough to firm up. This step will also help the flavors of the cookies to meld together and make the cookies tastier.
Tip 5: Measure the Cookies
When making cake mix cookies, you need to ensure that the cookies are the same size for even baking. You can use a measuring spoon, scoop or weigh the dough to achieve this. You can also roll the cookie dough into balls and ensure they are the same size. This step not only ensures even baking but also makes for aesthetically pleasing cookies.
Tip 6: Baking Time and Temperature
Baking cake mix cookies can take between 10 to 12 minutes at 350°F. However, the baking time may vary depending on the type of oven you are using. You can check whether your cookies are ready by pressing the middle of the cookie with your finger. If it’s firm, the cookies are ready. If it leaves an imprint or feels soft, bake for a few more minutes.
Tip 7: Cool the Cookies
It’s essential to let the cookies cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack. This step ensures that the cookies set and do not fall apart when transferring them. Once cooled, you can dust your cookies with powdered sugar or decorate them with frosting, depending on your preference.
Tip 8: Storage and Shelf Life
When storing cake mix cookies, ensure that you keep them in an airtight container at room temperature. They have a shelf life of three to four days, but they tend to lose their texture and taste after the first day. To keep them fresh, you can store them in the fridge for up to a week or freeze them for up to three months. When freezing, ensure that you wrap them tightly in plastic wrap or foil and place them in a freezer-safe container.

Conclusion

Cake mix cookies are quick, easy, and delicious. Following these valuable tips can make your cake mix cookies even tastier and aesthetically pleasing. Remember to choose the right cake mix, add-in ingredients, chill the dough, measure the cookies, bake at the correct temperature and time, cool the cookies, and store them appropriately for a longer shelf life. Happy baking!
