THE BEST PEACH COBBLER

The Best Peach Cobbler image

In our classic southern-style peach cobbler, we layer the fruit on top of the batter before baking. In the oven, the sweet batter rises through the peaches, creating a light and airy cake-like topping. We left the peaches unpeeled, which adds a nice color and makes the recipe even easier. Serve it with vanilla ice cream for the perfect summer dessert.

Time 1h10m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 12

5 small peaches, cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices (about 5 cups)
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
1/2 stick (4 tablespoons) unsalted butter
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3/4 cup milk, at room temperature

Steps:

  • For the filling: Put the peaches, sugar, cinnamon, salt and lemon juice in a medium saucepan. Place over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved and the peach juices begin to boil. Lower to a simmer and continue to cook for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat.
  • For the batter: Put the butter in a 2-quart baking dish and place it in the oven while it preheats. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl. Stir the vanilla into the milk in a liquid measuring cup. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients while whisking until well combined.
  • Remove the baking dish from the oven and pour the batter in an even layer over the melted butter. Spoon the peaches along with their juices evenly over the top of the batter. Bake until the cobbler is golden brown on top and the peach juices are bubbling, 35 to 45 minutes.
  • Let cool to room temperature before serving.

ANNE'S PEACH COBBLER

Anne's Peach Cobbler image

This is my own personal spin on peach cobbler. I hope you enjoy it. It is so delicious serving warm with vanilla ice cream. I think the extra taste comes from marinating, if you will, the peaches in brown sugar and cinnamon with a little almond flavoring while you prepare other parts of the cobbler. P.S. This is not a good recipe if you are trying to lose weight...LOL!!! :P

- (see below)

Steps:

  • 28 oz. can sliced peaches, in heavy syrup 1 cup flour 1 cup sugar 1 ¾ teaspoon baking powder ¾ cup milk 1 stick margarine or butter. ¼ teaspoon almond extract (optional) Brown sugar to taste Cinnamon to taste
  • Drain peaches and coat with brown sugar and cinnamon to taste, adding ¼ teaspoon almond extract. Let sit. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and milk and stir until mixture is smooth. Place margarine in a glass or metal baking pan in 350 degree oven until just melted. Next, add the peaches to the flour mixture and stir. Pour in the baking pan over the margarine/butter. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes. My oven doesn't cook as hot on 350 degrees so I let stay in oven just a couple of minutes more. Sprinkle crust with a little brown sugar and cinnamon about five minutes before taking out of the oven. It will get bubbly on top. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream. Tastes like you used fresh peaches.

Peach cobbler is a classic American dessert that is loved by many. Anne’s peach cobbler recipe is one of the most popular and delicious recipes out there. It is simple to make, and the end result is a rich, flavorful dessert that is perfect for any occasion. In this article, we will provide valuable tips on how to make Anne’s peach cobbler recipe that will help you achieve the best results possible.

Tip #1: Use Fresh Peaches

One of the most important tips for making Anne’s peach cobbler recipe is to use fresh, ripe peaches. The quality of the peaches will greatly affect the taste of the final product. When selecting peaches, make sure that they are ripe, firm, and not overly soft or bruised. You can also opt to use canned peaches, but fresh peaches will always result in a more flavorful cobbler.

Tip #2: Cut the Peaches into Uniform Pieces

When making peach cobbler, it’s important that the pieces of fruit are cut into uniform pieces. This ensures that they cook evenly and that the cobbler has a consistent texture throughout. To do this, cut the peaches into small, bite-sized pieces that are approximately the same size.

Tip #3: Use Cold Butter

Many peach cobbler recipes call for room temperature butter, but Anne’s recipe requires cold butter. This is because the cold butter creates a flakier crust, which is essential to a good cobbler. To ensure that the butter is cold, cut it into small pieces and place it in the freezer for at least 15 minutes before using it in the recipe.

Tip #4: Use Buttermilk

Another key ingredient in Anne’s peach cobbler recipe is buttermilk. Buttermilk adds a tangy flavor and helps to create a light, fluffy crust. If you don’t have buttermilk on hand, you can make a substitute by adding 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice to 1 cup of milk and letting it sit for 5-10 minutes.

Tip #5: Don’t Overmix the Batter

When making the cobbler batter, it’s important not to overmix it. Overmixing can lead to a tough, dense crust instead of a light, fluffy one. To avoid this, mix the batter just until the dry ingredients are incorporated into the wet ingredients.

Tip #6: Use a Combination of Flour and Cornmeal

Anne’s recipe calls for a combination of flour and cornmeal for the cobbler crust. This creates a unique texture that is both crunchy and soft. If you don’t have cornmeal on hand, you can substitute it with more flour, but you will miss out on the textural contrast that the cornmeal provides.

Tip #7: Use a Deep-Dish Pie Pan

To ensure that your peach cobbler has enough room to rise and bake evenly, it’s important to use a deep-dish pie pan. This will also prevent the filling from bubbling over the sides during baking. If you don’t have a deep-dish pie pan, you can use a 9x13-inch baking dish instead.

Tip #8: Preheat the Oven

When making any baked good, it’s important to preheat the oven to the correct temperature before baking. This ensures that the cobbler bakes evenly and that the crust is cooked all the way through. Anne’s peach cobbler recipe calls for a preheated oven at 375°F.

Tip #9: Let the Cobbler Cool Before Serving

While it may be tempting to dig into the peach cobbler right out of the oven, it’s important to let it cool for at least 20 minutes before serving. This allows the filling to set and the crust to firm up, which makes it easier to slice and serve.

Tip #10: Serve with Whipped Cream or Ice Cream

Peach cobbler pairs perfectly with whipped cream or ice cream. The cool, creamy texture of whipped cream or ice cream contrasts with the warm, sweet filling of the cobbler, creating a delicious flavor and texture combination. Serve the peach cobbler with a dollop of freshly whipped cream or a scoop of your favorite ice cream for the perfect finishing touch.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Anne’s peach cobbler recipe is a classic dessert that is easy to make and endlessly customizable. With these valuable tips, you can achieve a delicious, flaky crust and a perfectly cooked filling every time. Whether you’re making this for a family gathering or as a treat for yourself, Anne’s peach cobbler recipe is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
