ANGEL FOOD DELIGHT

Angel Food Delight image

I found this in a magazine, I believe it was "Quick & Easy" while waiting for an appointment. Unfortunately, I do not remember what they called it so I have just called it Angel Food Delight. It sounded too easy to be true but it was wonderful. The original recipe said to chill for an hour but I found it took longer for the flavors to merge. I liked the adaptability of using different toppings. The recipe called for 2 cans of Pie Filling but I found 1 to be sufficient. However, use your own judgement. While the flavor is rich, it is not a heavy dessert and everyone has loved it.

Can use store bought or make your own favorite angel food cake. So this recipe can be made quickly as a last minute desert idea. A whole angel food cake or ½ or even angelfood cupcakes can be used for this recipe.

Provided by Tammy Pitts

Categories     Fruit Desserts

Time 1h45m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 store bought angel food cake, or make your own favorite recipe
3 containers low fat lemon flavored yogurt
2 containers of cool whip, thawed (use refrigerator method to thaw only); any flavor even sugar free. Extra creamy seems to hold longer and better
Fresh fruit, your choice or what is in season, frozen fruit does not work
Eatable flowers for decorations (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Place angel food cake on a platter (if you made your own must be totally cooled), set aside. In a medium mixing bowl place your containers of cool whip and fold gently containers of lemon yogurt till well blended. Use cool whip/yogurt mixture like a frosting on the angel food cake. Make sure if you want a flat top to decorate fill the hole in angel food cake with mixture. Arrange fruit and flowers on cake to your desire. I like to fan out strawberries and decorate with raspberries, blueberries, mandarin oranges, etc. Cover cake and store in refrigerator till ready to serve.
  • 2. VARIATIONS & OTHER IDEAS ======================== I find the lemon yogurt is the best to use it so refreshing with the fruit. But any flavored yogurt will do and you can mix and match fruit to yogurt for different flavors. I've even dusted cake with cocoa, or dark chocolate shavings etc. If you use plain yogurt and want to add some flavoring like expresso powder, tang etc. Add it into the yogurt first then fold into the cool whip. Just make sure the powder is well dissolved first into the yogurt.

Valuable Tips When Making Angel Food Delight Recipes

Angel food delight is a dessert that has been around for ages. It is a delicious and refreshing dessert that is perfect for any occasion. The recipe for angel food delight is simple and easy, but there are a few tips that you need to keep in mind when making this dessert. In this article, we will share some valuable tips that you should keep in mind when making angel food delight recipes.
1. Make sure you use a clean bowl and beaters
When making angel food delight, it is important to use a clean bowl and beaters. Any grease or oil in the bowl or beaters can prevent the egg whites from whipping up properly. This can result in a denser and less fluffy dessert. Make sure to wash your beaters and bowl thoroughly with soap and water before starting the recipe.
2. Use room temperature ingredients
Using room temperature ingredients when making an angel food delight recipe is important. This is because room temperature ingredients mix together more easily and evenly than cold ingredients. When using cold ingredients, it can take longer for them to mix together, and this can cause the cake to be less fluffy. Before you start making your dessert, make sure that your ingredients are at room temperature.
3. Whip the egg whites until stiff peaks form
Whipping the egg whites until stiff peaks form is important when making an angel food delight. This is because the egg whites create the airiness of the dessert. To get the perfect angel food delight, you need to ensure that the egg whites are whipped until stiff peaks form. This can take some time, so be patient and keep whipping until you see the stiff peaks.
4. Fold in the dry ingredients gently
When adding the dry ingredients to the egg whites, make sure to fold them in gently. Folding the dry ingredients in too vigorously can cause the egg whites to deflate, and this can result in a dense and heavy dessert. The key to a light and fluffy angel food delight is gently folding in the dry ingredients.
5. Use a chiffon cake pan
Using a chiffon cake pan is important when making an angel food delight. This is because the pan allows the cake to cook evenly and helps it to rise properly. The chiffon cake pan has a removable bottom, which makes it easier to remove the cake from the pan when it is done. If you don't have a chiffon cake pan, you can use a regular cake pan, but the cake may not turn out as fluffy and light as it would with a chiffon cake pan.
6. Invert the cake after baking
After the cake has finished baking, it's important to invert it onto a cooling rack. This is because angel food cake needs to cool upside down to maintain its shape and structure. If you leave the cake in the pan to cool, it will lose its airiness and become dense.
7. Store the cake properly
Storing the angel food delight properly is important to ensure that it stays fresh and light. Once the cake has cooled completely, you can store it in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. If you want to keep it longer, you can wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and store it in the freezer for up to three months.
8. Top with fresh fruit
Angel food delight tastes delicious on its own, but it is even better when topped with fresh fruit. You can use any kind of fruit you like, but strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries work particularly well with this dessert. Simply slice up the fruit and arrange it on top of the cake before serving. This adds a refreshing and healthy twist to the dessert.
Conclusion
Angel food delight is a classic dessert that is loved by many. It is a light, fluffy, and refreshing dessert that is perfect for any occasion. When making angel food delight, it's important to keep in mind these valuable tips to ensure that you get the perfect dessert every time. Remember to use clean equipment, whip the egg whites until stiff peaks form, fold in the dry ingredients gently, use a chiffon cake pan, invert the cake after baking, store the cake properly, and top with fresh fruit. With these tips, you are sure to make the perfect angel food delight that your family and friends will love.
