I found this recipe on FB as posted by Emily Berkman. This is quickly becoming a favorite of ours. If this has been posted before I'm sorry to duplicate, but I couldn't find it. I'm sure this could also be made more healthy by using low-fat mayo and sour cream.....There is a picture on FB, but I'm having a hard time trying to...

Amish broccoli salad is a delicious and healthy side dish that can be served as a side dish or as a main course. Its crunchy texture and unique flavor make it a perfect dish for a refreshing and vibrant summer dish. It is also a perfect dish for those who are watching their weight as it is low in calories and packed with essential nutrients.

Choosing the Right Broccoli

The first step in making a delicious amish broccoli salad is choosing the right broccoli. You should look for broccoli that has dark green florets, firm stalks, and no yellowing on the stem. Avoid broccoli that has brown spots or looks wilted, as it may not be fresh. In addition, broccoli with smaller florets is better than broccoli with larger florets, as it is more tender and easier to eat.

Preparing the Broccoli

Once you have chosen the right broccoli, you should prepare it. To do this, you need to wash the broccoli thoroughly with water, and then pat it dry with paper towels. Next, you should cut the broccoli into small, bite-sized pieces. Make sure to remove any tough stems or leaves, as they can be bitter and tough to chew. You can also blanch the broccoli by boiling it for a few minutes, but make sure not to overcook it as it can become mushy and lose its texture.

Choosing the Right Dressing

The dressing is an essential component of the amish broccoli salad, and choosing the right one can make a big difference in the flavor of the dish. You can choose from a variety of dressings, such as creamy dressing, vinaigrette, or a combination of the two. A creamy dressing, such as mayonnaise, sour cream, or yogurt, can add richness and depth to the dish, while a vinaigrette can add a tangy and zesty flavor.

Adding Crunchy Elements

Adding crunchy elements to the amish broccoli salad can make it more interesting and give it more texture. You can add any one or a combination of ingredients, such as nuts, seeds, or croutons. Walnuts or almonds are great choices, as they add a nutty flavor and delicious crunch. Sesame seeds or sunflower seeds are also great additions, as they add a subtle texture and a lot of flavor. Croutons are another popular choice as they bring a crispy texture and savory flavor.

Incorporating Other Vegetables

While the broccoli is the star of the show, you can also add other vegetables to the amish broccoli salad to make it more nutritious and delicious. Vegetables such as carrots, bell peppers, or cherry tomatoes can add color, texture, and freshness to the salad. You can also add red onions or scallions to add a little bit of a bite.

Adding a Touch of Sweetness

Adding a touch of sweetness can add depth and balance to the amish broccoli salad. You can add a variety of sweetness, such as cranberries, raisins, or chopped apples. These fruits add a subtle sweetness and a chewy texture, and they also complement the savory flavor of the broccoli.

Seasoning the Salad

Seasoning the amish broccoli salad is important to bring out its flavors. You can season it with salt and pepper to taste, but you can also add other seasonings like garlic powder, paprika, or dill. Dill is a popular seasoning for amish broccoli salad, as it adds a refreshing and herbaceous flavor that complements the broccoli’s taste.

Conclusion

Amish broccoli salad is a versatile dish that can be made in many ways. A few simple tweaks and additions can make a big difference in flavor and texture. Following these simple tips can help you create a delicious amish broccoli salad that will be the perfect addition to any meal. Whether you are looking for a healthy side dish or a main course, this salad is sure to please your taste buds.
