Time 50m

Yield 6 burgers, 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 26

1 lb 75% lean ground beef
12 ounces Spam, grated
6 tablespoons cold water
1/4 cup grated sweet yellow onion
1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
fine sea salt
fresh ground white pepper
1/2 cup pineapple juice
3 tablespoons dry sake
3 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
2 1/2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 1/2 tablespoons ketchup
4 teaspoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon sriracha sauce
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
1/8 teaspoon minced onion flakes
6 slices havarti cheese
6 slices cooked crisp bacon (optional)
6 slices fresh pineapple, cored, trimmed, and sliced 1/2-inch thick
6 slices sweet red onions, sliced 1/4-inch thick
6 leaves fresh green leaf lettuce
1 (4 ounce) can diced green chilies, drained
6 king's original sweet hawaiian rolls
salted butter (lightly spread over bun halves)

Steps:

  • NOTES: IF YOU CANNOT FIND DRY SAKE, SUBSTITUTE IT WITH DRY SHERRY. YOU CAN SUBSTITUTE FRESH GARLIC AND GINGER WITH 1/8 TEASPOON EACH GARLIC POWDER AND GROUND GINGER. FOR A MILDER SAUCE, REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF SRIRACHA. DICED ROASTED RED PEPPER MAY BE USED IN PLACE OF DICED ROASTED GREEN CHILES. HAVARTI CHEESE MAY BE REPLACED WITH MONTEREY JACK OR PEPPER JACK CHEESE. USE ONLY KING'S HAWAIIAN BRAND ORIGINAL SWEET HAMBURGER BUNS.
  • PREPARE MEAT: Place 1 lb ground beef into a medium mixing bowl. Grate one loaf of SPAM over the ground beef. Mix 6 tablespoons cold water with 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch then pour over mixture. Grate 1/4 cup sweet onions into bowl. Wearing kitchen gloves, combine the meat mixture, squeezing it through the fingers until well combined.
  • PREPARE PATTIES: Shape meat mixture into 6 equal patties, about 1-inch larger in width than King's Hawaiian Hamburger Buns. Place patties on a platter. Sprinkle each patty on each side with fine sea salt and freshly ground white pepper. Refrigerate patties until ready to grill.
  • PREPARE SAUCE: Whisk all of the sauce ingredients in a small mixing bowl. Transfer sauce mixture into a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly until completely thickened. Reduce heat to lowest setting and cover, stirring occasionally to refresh consistency.
  • PREPARE BUNS: Lightly and evenly butter each separated flat surface of King's Original Hawaiian Sweet Hamburger Buns. Attach buttered cut sides together and return to the original bag until needed, to keep fresh.
  • PREPARE FIXINGS: Cook the bacon if using, until crisp (2 slices per burger). Slice the vegetables and pineapple to specifications. Immerse the onion slices in the sauce. Cover and let heat. Turn once. Remove when onions have softened slightly.
  • PREPARE GRILL: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Arrange patties on one side of the grill. Place pineapple slices on the other side of the grill. Turn each when dark grill-marks appear. Remove patties and pineapple when done to your satisfaction.
  • TOAST BUNS: Place buttered buns sliced-side down on grill, just until medium-toasted.
  • ASSEMBLE BURGERS: Turn the grilled pineapple rings in the heated sauce, until well-coated, then remove. Spoon or brush the prepared sauce evenly across each cut top bun portion. Turn the grilled patties in the sauce pan to coat. Place the cheese slices over patties. Cover saucepan until cheese is melted. Transfer patties onto the bottom bun halves. Stir the drained green chiles well into the sauce mixture. Continue assembling burgers with the bacon (optional), then pineapple, sliced onion, and lettuce. Spoon the sauce over the grilled side of each top bun. Place top buns over each assembled burger.
  • SERVE IMMEDIATELY with Hawaiian potato chips, Maui onion rings or fries, and enjoy!

Valuable Tips when Making Aloha Sweet Sour Burgers Recipes

Burgers are a go-to meal for most people due to their ease of preparation and delicious taste. However, to make a burger that stands out, you need to incorporate different flavors and make it exciting to eat. One recipe that achieves this is the Aloha Sweet Sour Burger. The sweet, tangy, and savory taste of this burger is perfect for any occasion, and its simplicity allows you to create a homemade burger that your family and friends will love. In this article, we will provide valuable tips when making Aloha Sweet Sour Burgers Recipes.
1. Choose the Right Meat
The quality of your burger starts with the meat. When making Aloha Sweet Sour Burgers, it is essential to choose the right meat. You need fresh, high-quality ground beef with about 20% fat content. The fat content is important because it adds flavor and moisture to the burger. When shopping for beef, you can ask the butcher for a custom grind to ensure you get the right fat content.
2. Mix the Meat Properly
Once you have the right meat, you need to mix it properly. Over-mixing the meat can cause it to become tough, while under-mixing can make the burgers fall apart. To achieve the perfect mixture, use your hands to lightly mix the meat with your desired seasonings. Mixing it lightly ensures that the fat stays intact, adding moisture to the burger.
3. Season the Meat Well
To achieve a delicious Aloha Sweet Sour Burger, you need to season the meat well. You can use a mixture of salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of cayenne pepper to give it a flavorful kick. Mix the spices with the meat, ensuring that you distribute evenly. Seasoned meat ensures that every bite has an explosion of flavor.
4. Use Pineapple and Teriyaki Sauce
The key to achieving the Aloha flavor of the burger is by using pineapple and teriyaki sauce. Pineapple adds sweetness and tanginess to the burger, while teriyaki sauce adds flavor and a savory taste. To incorporate these two ingredients, grill pineapple slices and brush them with teriyaki sauce. Place the slices on the burger and add any additional toppings you desire.
5. Toast the Buns
The texture of the bun can make or break a burger. To achieve a perfect Aloha Sweet Sour Burger, you need to toast the buns. To toast the buns, slice them in half and place them on the grill, cut side down. Toast them for a minute or two until they are golden brown. The toasted buns hold up better and add a texture to the burger.
6. Add Toppings
A good Aloha Sweet Sour Burger requires the right toppings. You can use any toppings you desire, but some of the best include lettuce, cheese, onions, and tomatoes. To achieve the Aloha taste, add grilled pineapple slices and teriyaki sauce. Pineapple and teriyaki sauce add the perfect flavor combination to the burger, making it a mouthwatering experience.
7. Cook the Burger Properly
Cooking the burger correctly ensures that it's juicy and flavorful. To achieve this, grill the burgers over high heat. Cook them for about 4-6 minutes per side or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F. Avoid pressing down on the burgers, as this causes the juices to escape, leaving you with a dry and flavorless burger.
8. Rest the Burger
Letting the burger rest before serving ensures that it's moist and juicy. To rest the burger, remove it from the grill and allow it to rest for about 5 minutes before serving. Resting allows the juices to redistribute and absorb back into the meat, making it tender and flavorful.
Conclusion
In conclusion, creating the perfect Aloha Sweet Sour Burger is easy when you follow the above tips. Remember to use high-quality meat, mix it properly, season it well, and add pineapple and teriyaki sauce for that perfect flavor combination. Top it off with the right toppings and remember to grill the buns and cook the burger correctly. Rest the burger before serving to achieve maximum juice retention, resulting in the perfect Aloha taste. With these tips, you can create a burger that's mouthwatering and perfect for any occasion.
