SUPER-TASTIC HEATH BARS

Super-Tastic Heath Bars image

I've been asked for this recipe over and over again. I got it from my neighbor, Jeanette, thank you! This recipe calls for graham crackers and toffee as the crust, and chocolate topping. You can add nuts, toffee bits, or other fun things to the chocolate topping. CAUTION: These are dangerous to have around your house, and worth every bit of fat and calories that's in them. Give them away or you'll eat them ALL!!

Categories     Bar Cookie

Time 35m

Yield 24 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 (8 ounce) packages graham crackers
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
8 ounces chocolate chips
1 cup nuts (optional)
1 cup toffee pieces (optional)
1 cup M&M's plain chocolate candy (optional)

Steps:

  • Preparation --
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Grease/butter or line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  • Toffee --
  • Combine butter and brown sugar in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer for 2 minutes while stirring. The mixture will expand, so don't use too small of a saucepan.
  • Assembly - Work quickly --
  • Pour half of the toffee mixture on the cookie sheet, and then top with a single layer of graham crackers, filling the cookie sheet. Try to coat the bottoms of all the crackers as you carefully add them.
  • Pour the other half of the toffee mixture on top of the single layer of graham crackers, spreading with a spatula. Again, try to spread the coating over all the crackers as best as you can.
  • Add nuts at this point, if you would like.
  • Put in oven for 7 minutes. At this point, the toffee will seal around the graham crackers, so don't fret if they're not fully submerged and perfectly coated before you put them in the oven. Just get it the best you can while the toffee is still warm.
  • Topping & Finishing --
  • Immediately after you remove the pan from the oven, sprinkle on your chocolate chips.
  • Let the chips sit a couple minutes to soften, then spread them out with a spatula, creating a complete chocolate seal over the entire pan.
  • At this time, add toffee bits, or M&Ms, or any other yummy topping you'd like.
  • Let cool, then freeze.
  • Once frozen, we break them apart into chunks, and store them in the freezer until ready to take to someone's house. If, they make it that far, that is! :-).
  • NOTE --
  • If you have gotten these bars from us, then note there were no nuts, and we use toffee bits on the top.

The almond toffee candy bar known as Heath Bar has become a household name and a popular choice for candy lovers all around the world. However, it can be a little challenging to find Heath Bars at times, especially if you are living outside the US. In such scenarios, the best bet is to make your own "Almost Heath Bars". This article will provide valuable tips that will help you make the perfect Almost Heath Bars.

Tip 1: Choice of Toffee

To make Almost Heath Bars, you will need toffee. A good toffee will help in making your Almost Heath Bars crispy and crunchy. There are different types of toffees available in the market. Some toffees are harder, while others are softer. For the best results, use toffees that are harder and darker. This will not only give a nice crunch to the bars but also prevent them from becoming too sticky.

Tip 2: Be Careful With Sugar

The Almost Heath Bars are already going to have a lot of sugar in them, so be careful not to add more sugar to the recipe. If you add more sugar, the bars will be too sweet and might even lose their crunchiness. Therefore, use the minimum amount of sugar required in the recipe.

Tip 3: Melt Chocolate Properly

Chocolate is an essential ingredient in Almost Heath Bar recipes. To ensure a smooth and shiny chocolate coating, melt the chocolate slowly on low heat. Keep an eye on it and stir continuously to prevent it from burning. After melting the chocolate, let it cool down a bit before dipping the bars in it. This will give a nice and even coating to the bars.

Tip 4: Use High-Quality Ingredients

Use high-quality ingredients like good-quality chocolate, fresh nuts, and good quality butter to make Almost Heath Bars. Low-quality ingredients can compromise the taste and texture of the bars. Therefore, spend a little extra if needed to get high-quality ingredients.

Tip 5: Prepare the Baking Tray Carefully

Prepare your baking tray carefully before starting the recipe. Grease the baking tray properly with cooking spray or butter to prevent sticking. This will help in smooth release of the bars without breaking.

Tip 6: Cut the Bars Immediately

Once you have dipped the bars in chocolate coating, cut them immediately. Cutting the bars while the chocolate is still fresh will give you clean and sharp edges. Cutting the bars after the chocolate has hardened might result in uneven edges.

Tip 7: Add Different Flavors

To give a unique twist to your Almost Heath Bars, you can add different flavors. For example, you can add a pinch of salt to give a savory taste, or a hint of cinnamon for a warm flavor. Adding different flavors can enhance your recipe and make it stand out.

Tip 8: Store in a Cool Place

If you are not planning to consume the bars immediately, store them in a cool and dry place. You can keep them in an airtight container or wrap them in a plastic wrap. Storing them in a cool place will prevent the bars from melting or becoming too sticky.

Tip 9: Experiment and Have Fun

Do not be afraid to experiment and have fun while making Almost Heath Bars. Try adding your twists and flavors, play with the recipe, and make it your own. You never know; you might end up creating your own unique and irresistible Almost Heath Bar recipe.
Conclusion
Almost Heath Bars are easy to make, and with these tips, you can make them perfectly every time. Using high-quality ingredients, preparing the baking tray carefully, melting the chocolate properly, and cutting the bars immediately after dipping them are some of the important tips that you must follow to make the perfect Almost Heath Bars. The best part is that you can experiment with different flavors and add your twists to make the bars unique and flavorful.
