Almond toffee squares are a delectable dessert that is perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth. These squares are a combination of crunchy almonds and sweet toffee that will satisfy your cravings. The recipe is easy to make at home, and it is perfect for a quick dessert or to serve at a party. In this article, we will dive into what almond toffee squares are, how to make them, and some tips for making the perfect batch every time.

What are Almond Toffee Squares?

Almond toffee squares are a dessert that is made up of two layers. The first layer is a buttery toffee, and the second layer is a layer of chopped almonds. The toffee layer is made by combining butter, sugar, and vanilla extract in a saucepan and cooking it until it becomes bubbly and golden. The toffee is then poured onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and allowed to cool. The second layer is made by spreading melted chocolate over the toffee layer and then sprinkling chopped almonds on top of the chocolate.

Ingredients Needed for Almond Toffee Squares

To make almond toffee squares, you will need the following ingredients:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped almonds

How to Make Almond Toffee Squares

To make almond toffee squares, follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Prepare the Toffee Layer
Begin by lining a 9x13 inch baking dish with parchment paper. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sugar to the saucepan, and stir to combine. Add the vanilla extract and continue to stir until the mixture becomes bubbly and golden in color. This should take about 10-15 minutes.
Step 2: Pour the Toffee Layer into the Baking Dish
Quickly pour the hot toffee mixture into the prepared baking dish. Use a spatula to spread it evenly across the bottom of the dish. Allow the toffee layer to cool for at least 10 minutes.
Step 3: Prepare the Chocolate Layer
While the toffee layer cools, melt the milk chocolate chips using a double boiler. Once the chocolate is melted, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly.
Step 4: Spread Chocolate and Almonds on Top of the Toffee Layer
Pour the melted chocolate over the cooled toffee layer and use a spatula to spread it evenly. Sprinkle the chopped almonds on top of the chocolate layer. Use your hands to gently press the almonds into the chocolate.
Step 5: Chill and Serve
Place the baking dish into the refrigerator and let it chill for at least 30 minutes or until the chocolate has hardened. Once the chocolate has hardened, remove the dish from the refrigerator and use a knife to cut the almond toffee squares into desired sizes. Serve and enjoy.

Tips for Making Perfect Almond Toffee Squares

To make the perfect almond toffee squares, keep the following tips in mind:
  • Be patient when making the toffee layer. It may take up to 15 minutes for the mixture to become bubbly and golden in color.
  • Use a double boiler to melt the chocolate chips. This will prevent the chocolate from burning.
  • Be sure to sprinkle the chopped almonds evenly over the chocolate layer. This will ensure that each square has a good balance of toffee, chocolate, and almonds.
  • Chill the almond toffee squares for at least 30 minutes before cutting them into pieces. This will allow the chocolate to harden and prevent them from falling apart.
  • Store the almond toffee squares in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. They can also be frozen for up to three months.

If you answered yes to either of these questions, almond toffee squares might be the perfect treat for you! With their signature crunch and sweet buttery flavor, these squares are a crowd pleaser that you can easily make at home. However, there are some important tips you should keep in mind to ensure that your almond toffee squares turn out just right. In this article, we will share these valuable tips with you.

Tip 1: Use High-Quality Ingredients

The success of any recipe depends on the quality of its ingredients, and this is especially true when it comes to almond toffee squares. To make sure your squares turn out perfectly, use high-quality butter, sugar, and almonds. Using unsalted butter will give you more control over the saltiness of the squares, and using fresh, high-quality almonds will add a nice crunch and nuttiness to the toffee.

Tip 2: Use a Reliable Candy Thermometer

The most important step in making almond toffee squares is cooking the toffee to the right temperature. This is where a candy thermometer comes in handy. A reliable candy thermometer will help you accurately measure the temperature of the toffee and ensure that it reaches the perfect temperature for a crunchy and glossy finish. Make sure to use a thermometer that is easy to read, has a clip to attach to the side of the pot, and can withstand high temperatures.

Tip 3: Prepare Your Baking Sheet Ahead of Time

Once your toffee has reached the perfect temperature, you need to pour it onto a baking sheet to cool and set. To ensure that your toffee doesn't stick to the baking sheet, prepare it ahead of time by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone mat. This will allow the toffee to easily release once it has hardened, and make it easier for you to cut into squares.

Tip 4: Cool the Toffee Gradually

It can be tempting to put the baking sheet of hot toffee in the fridge to speed up the cooling process, but this can actually cause the toffee to become sticky and lose its crunch. To cool the toffee properly, let it cool at room temperature for a few minutes, then transfer it to a cool, dry place to finish cooling. This will give your squares the perfect crunch and texture.

Tip 5: Cut the Squares while the Toffee is Warm

Once your toffee has cooled and hardened, it's time to cut it into squares. However, cutting cooled toffee can be difficult and can result in uneven squares. To make the process easier, use a sharp, heavy knife to cut the squares while the toffee is still warm. This will give you cleaner cuts and make it easier to break apart any stubborn pieces.

Tip 6: Store in an Airtight Container

To ensure that your almond toffee squares stay fresh and crunchy, store them in an airtight container at room temperature. For added freshness, you can also store them in the fridge. Avoid storing them in a humid environment or near any heat sources, which can cause the toffee to become sticky.
Conclusion
Almond toffee squares are a delicious treat that are perfect for any occasion. By following these valuable tips, you can ensure that your squares turn out perfectly every time. Remember to use high-quality ingredients, a reliable candy thermometer, prepare your baking sheet ahead of time, cool the toffee gradually, cut the squares while the toffee is warm, and store them in an airtight container. With these tips in mind, you're sure to impress your friends and family with your homemade almond toffee squares!
