ALMOND OREO TRUFFLES BALLS (AND OTHER FLAVORS)

Almond Oreo Truffles Balls (And Other Flavors) image

I love oreo truffles and have put a few personal touches on them to make them unique and even more yummy if possible! When this recipe was created, and oreo package was 18 oz. and included 45 oreos. The new packages have only 14.3 ounces, and around 36 cookies. You will need more than one package now.

Time 1h

Yield 50 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

18 ounces Oreo cookies (45 cookies)
8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 teaspoon almond extract (see below for other options)
14 ounces baker's dipping chocolate (2 7 oz. containers)
4 ounces baker's white chocolate (1 box)

Steps:

  • Using a food processor, grind cookies to a fine powder.
  • With a mixer, blend cookie powder, cream cheese and almond extract until thoroughly mixed (there should be no white traces of cream cheese).
  • Use the large side of a melon baller to create ¾ inch balls and place on wax-lined cookie sheet.
  • Refrigerate for 45 minutes.
  • Follow directions on the Baker's Dipping Chocolate to melt the milk chocolate.
  • Dip balls and coat thoroughly.
  • Gently place a fork underneath the coated ball to lift it out of chocolate; letting the excess chocolate drip off.
  • Place on wax-paper-lined cookie sheet.
  • Follow the directions on the Baker's White chocolate box to melt it.
  • Place melted white chocolate in a small plastic baggy and cut a tiny hole in a corner. Use as a pastry bag. (Or you can purchase plastic bottles with small tips designed for creating candies).
  • Using the bag or bottle, drizzle the white chocolate over each truffle.
  • Place in the refrigerator for 15 minutes to let the chocolate set.
  • *Instead of the white chocolate embellishment, you can top with ground toasted almonds.
  • **Do not substitute chips for either the milk or white chocolate. They will not create a smooth exterior on your truffle! You can substitute premium baking chocolate for the dipping chocolate if you prefer.
  • ***You can change these up by substituting different flavors of extract: use peppermint and top with crushed peppermint candies, use cherry and top with pink tinted white chocolate, substitute ½ t. strong coffee and top with crushed hazelnut, or substitute vanilla. Your options are endless!

OREO BALLS

Oreo Balls image

My sister's co-worker brought these to a party and they were quite a hit. I don't know where the recipe came from originally. "Bark" is an artificial chocolate or vanilla candy coating/confectioner's coating used to make a treat called almond bark and can be found at most grocery stores near the chocolate chips. You can use chocolate chips and white chocolate chips if you don't have almond bark, but I have found that almond bark melts better and is easier to work with.

Other Flavor Variations

While almond Oreo truffles balls are undoubtedly delicious, there are plenty of other flavor variations to try as well. Here are just a few ideas:
Peanut Butter Cup Truffles
If you're a fan of the classic combination of peanut butter and chocolate, these truffles are for you. Simply mix together cream cheese, powdered sugar, and peanut butter, then roll the mixture into balls. Dip in melted chocolate and top with a sprinkle of chopped peanuts.
Mint Chocolate Truffles
For a refreshing twist on classic truffles, try adding a dash of peppermint extract to the mixture before rolling into balls. Coat in melted dark chocolate and sprinkle with crushed candy canes.
Lemon Cheesecake Truffles
For those who love a tangy, citrus flavor, these truffles are a must-try. Mix together cream cheese, graham cracker crumbs, and lemon zest, then roll into balls. Dip in melted white chocolate and sprinkle with extra graham cracker crumbs.
Coconut Cream Pie Truffles
For a taste of the tropics, combine cream cheese, powdered sugar, and shredded coconut. Roll into balls and dip in melted milk chocolate. Top with a sprinkle of toasted coconut flakes for extra flavor and texture.

Truffles are delicious balls of chocolate, cream, and sometimes fruit, that are rolled in cocoa powder or chopped nuts. These decadent treats are often found in expensive chocolate shops or bakeries, and are a favorite of many. However, making truffles at home can be just as easy and satisfying, and the possibilities for flavors and additions are endless. This article will focus specifically on making almond Oreo truffle balls, but the tips and techniques can be applied to any truffle recipe. Tip 1: Choose the Right Ingredients When making truffles, the quality and type of ingredients used can make a huge difference in the final product. For the almond Oreo truffle balls, it is important to use high-quality white chocolate, as this will be the base for the truffle filling. In addition, using Oreo cookies that are fresh and not stale will give the truffles a better texture. For the almonds, it is recommended to use sliced or slivered almonds, as these will easily mix in with the filling. Tip 2: Get the Texture Right Truffles should have a smooth and creamy texture, with no lumps or bumps. To achieve this, it is important to melt the white chocolate slowly and gently, either over a double boiler or in short bursts in the microwave. Once melted, the cream cheese and crushed Oreos can be added and mixed until combined. The sliced almonds should be added last, and mixed in gently to avoid breaking them up too much. If the filling is too wet or sticky, it can be chilled in the refrigerator for a few minutes before rolling into balls. Tip 3: Use Good Technique for Rolling Rolling truffles can be a messy and frustrating process if not done properly. To avoid the filling sticking to your hands, it is recommended to wear disposable gloves or dip your hands in cold water before rolling. The filling should also be scooped out with a small cookie scoop, rather than trying to form balls by hand. This will ensure that all the truffles are the same size and shape. Once the truffles are formed, they should be chilled in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before dipping in chocolate. Tip 4: Get Creative with Flavor Additions While the almond Oreo truffle balls are already delicious, there are many ways to add extra flavor and texture to truffles. Some ideas include adding chopped nuts, dried fruit, or different types of cookies to the filling. For the coating, different types of chocolate can be used, such as dark, milk, or semisweet. Other creative coatings include crushed candy canes, cocoa powder, or toasted coconut. The possibilities are endless, so feel free to experiment and create your own unique truffle flavors. Tip 5: Presentation Matters Truffles are not only delicious, but they can also be a beautiful gift or addition to a dessert table. To make sure they look their best, it is important to take care with presentation. The truffles should be placed in mini cupcake liners or on a decorative platter. If desired, they can also be drizzled with additional chocolate or sprinkled with extra toppings. When gifting truffles, it is a nice touch to place them in a small gift box or clear plastic bag tied with ribbon. Conclusion: Almond Oreo truffle balls are a delicious and easy dessert that can be made at home with just a few simple ingredients. By following the tips outlined in this article, you can ensure that your truffles are creamy, flavorful, and beautifully presented. With some creativity and experimentation, you can also create your own unique truffle flavors that will impress any chocolate lover.
