There are many delicious homemade recipes for fried chicken, but if you want to keep it healthy, then you can try Alabama Oven Fried Chicken. Instead of deep-frying, you can bake your chicken in the oven, and still achieve a crispy outer layer with a juicy and tender inner layer. Here are some valuable tips on how to make the perfect Alabama Oven Fried Chicken recipe. Select the Right Chicken: Choosing the right chicken is the first and foremost step in making good quality oven fried chicken. Preferably, you should buy fresh chicken, as frozen chicken can have a high water content that may make it difficult to achieve a crispy layer. Some people like to use chicken breasts for their oven-fried chicken, but others prefer chicken tenders or whole chicken pieces like thighs or legs. Make sure that you do not use a chicken with the skin on, as this will soften and become rubbery when baked. The Brining Process: To keep your oven-fried chicken juicy, you should brine it before cooking. Brining involves soaking the chicken in salt water for up to 24 hours before cooking. A simple brine consists of salt, sugar, and water. Some people like to add other flavorings such as herbs or spices to their brine. You can adjust the brine recipe according to your own preference, but just ensure that the salt content is not too high, as this can make the chicken too salty. Prepare the Coating: The coating is a combination of flour, spices, and baking powder that is used to coat the chicken before baking. The ratio of flour to seasoning can vary, but usually, it is a 2:1:1 ratio of flour, salt, and paprika. Besides this basic recipe, other spices can be added to it like garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, or cayenne pepper. The baking powder is added to the flour mixture to create a crispy and fluffy coating. When using self-rising flour, the baking powder can be eliminated. The Procedure: After brining the chicken, pat it dry with a paper towel. Then, coat each piece of chicken in the flour mixture, making sure to cover it completely. Place the coated chicken on a greased baking sheet, making sure that they do not touch each other. Cover the chicken with a plastic wrap, and refrigerate it for up to 2 hours. This step helps to dry out the coating and create a crispy layer when baked. The Baking Process: Preheat the oven to 400°F. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the coating is golden brown. Turn the chicken over halfway through the cooking process to ensure even browning. You can also use a thermometer to check if the internal temperature of the chicken has reached 165°F. Serving Suggestions: Alabama Oven Fried Chicken can be served with a variety of side dishes like mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, cornbread or coleslaw. You can also serve it with dipping sauces like BBQ sauce, ranch or honey mustard. The possibilities are endless, so let your creativity run wild. Conclusion: In conclusion, making the perfect Alabama Oven Fried Chicken requires some preparation and attention to detail. Choosing the right chicken, brining it, preparing the coating, and following the correct baking procedure are all critical steps in making delicious and crispy oven-fried chicken. With these valuable tips, you can make your oven-fried chicken recipe like a pro. Enjoy your healthy and tasty oven-fried chicken!
