Zucchini fries are a trendy replacement for the traditional french fry. While most would try to salt zucchini to help remove excess moisture, I found it caused my zucchini fries to burn. I used a spiralizer fitted to my Kitchenaid® and used the larger spiralizer plate.

Air fryers have been gaining popularity in recent years, and for a good reason. They offer a healthier cooking option for your favorite foods. One dish that many people enjoy, but can be high in calories, is fried zucchini fries. That's where air fryer zucchini fries come in. These fries are crispy, delicious, and much healthier than traditional fried zucchini fries. In this article, we will talk about what air fryer zucchini fries are, why they are a healthier option, and some recipe ideas that you can try at home.

What are Air Fryer Zucchini Fries?

Air fryer zucchini fries are a healthier alternative to traditional fried zucchini fries. They are made by slicing zucchini into thin sticks, coating them in breadcrumbs or flour, and then air frying them until they are crispy. The air fryer circulates hot air around the zucchini, creating a crispy texture that is similar to traditional fried zucchini fries. The difference is that air fryer zucchini fries are cooked without oil or with very little oil, making them a much healthier option.

Why Air Fryer Zucchini Fries are a Healthier Option

Traditional fried zucchini fries are often deep-fried, which means they are cooked in hot oil. This causes the zucchini to absorb a lot of oil, which makes them high in calories and fat. Air fryer zucchini fries, on the other hand, are cooked with little or no oil, which significantly reduces their calorie and fat content. Air fryer zucchini fries are also a great source of nutrients, such as fiber, potassium, and vitamin C.

So, the next time you are looking for a healthier snack or side dish, try making air fryer zucchini fries!
Air fryer zucchini fries are a delicious and healthy snack that can be prepared quickly and easily. With the help of an air fryer, you can achieve a crispy and crunchy texture without deep-frying the zucchini. However, there are a few tips and tricks that you should keep in mind to make sure you get perfect air fryer zucchini fries every time.

Tip 1: Choose the Right Zucchini

Choosing the right zucchini is the first step in making perfect air fryer zucchini fries. When selecting zucchini, look for small to medium-sized ones with smooth and firm skin. Avoid zucchinis that are overly large, as they tend to be watery and have a bland taste.
Tip 1.1: Cut the Zucchini into Uniform Sizes
To ensure even cooking, cut the zucchini into uniform sizes. Aim for fries that are about 1/4 inch thick and 4 inches long.

Tip 2: Pat the Zucchini Dry

Before air frying the zucchini, pat them dry with a paper towel. This will remove any excess water and prevent the fries from becoming soggy.
Tip 2.1: Salt the Zucchini before Drying
To draw out the extra moisture from the zucchini, sprinkle some salt on the fries before patting them dry. This will result in a crispier texture.

Tip 3: Use Cornstarch or Panko Breadcrumbs

Coating the zucchini fries in a layer of cornstarch or panko breadcrumbs will help the fries become extra crispy in the air fryer.
Tip 3.1: Add Seasonings to the Coating
To add more flavor, mix some of your favorite seasonings into the cornstarch or panko breadcrumbs. Try garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, or Italian seasoning for a tasty twist.

Tip 4: Preheat the Air Fryer

Just like an oven, it's important to preheat your air fryer before cooking. Preheating the fryer will ensure that it reaches the desired temperature and helps to create a crispy texture on the zucchini fries.
Tip 4.1: Spray the Air Fryer Basket with Cooking Spray
Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray before adding the zucchini fries. This will prevent the fries from sticking to the basket and making them easy to remove.

Tip 5: Space Out the Fries

Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket! Space out the zucchini fries evenly, leaving room between them for air to circulate. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and a less crispy texture.
Tip 5.1: Shake the Basket
About halfway through the cooking time, shake the air fryer basket to help ensure the zucchini fries cook evenly on all sides.

Tip 6: Monitor the Fries While Cooking

It's important to keep an eye on the zucchini fries while they're cooking in the air fryer. Check them periodically to make sure they're cooking evenly, and flip them if necessary. Overcooking can lead to burnt fries, while undercooking will result in a mushy texture.
Tip 6.1: Use a Meat Thermometer to Check Doneness
If you're not sure whether the zucchini fries are cooked through, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. Aim for a temperature of 200 degrees Fahrenheit for a perfectly cooked fry.

Conclusion

With these tips and tricks, you can achieve perfectly crispy and delicious air fryer zucchini fries every time. Whether you're making them as a snack, side dish, or appetizer, these fries are a tasty and healthy option that the whole family will love. So fire up your air fryer and get cooking!
