AIR FRYER S'MORES BANANA BOATS

Air Fryer S'mores Banana Boats image

When visiting my grandparents' lake house as a kid, they'd set up a tent and let us cousins pretend like we were camping. Grandma would always make these in the oven and bring them out to us so that we'd feel like we were really camping. Roasting the banana changes the the texture to almost a pudding-like consistency. Here is my adapted version using an air fryer.

However, there are some important tips to keep in mind when making air fryer roasted bananas to ensure that they turn out perfectly every time. In this article, we will take a look at some valuable tips that will help you make the best air fryer roasted banana recipes.

Tip#1: Choose the Right Bananas

Choosing the right bananas is key to making perfect air fryer roasted bananas. The ideal bananas for this recipe are ripe but not overly ripe. Overripe bananas may fall apart when cooked in the air fryer, while underripe bananas may not have the same sweetness as ripe bananas. Look for bananas that are yellow with brown spots. These bananas are the perfect combination of sweetness and texture.

Tip#2: Use Lemon Juice

To prevent the bananas from turning brown and losing their color when exposed to air, use lemon juice. Before slicing the bananas, toss them in a mixture of one tablespoon of lemon juice and one tablespoon of water. This will ensure that the bananas retain their color and look appetizing.

Tip#3: Slice the Bananas Evenly

When slicing the bananas, it is important to do it evenly to ensure that they cook evenly in the air fryer. The ideal thickness for the banana slices is about 1/4 inch. If the slices are too thin, they may burn in the air fryer, while slices that are too thick may not cook through properly.

Tip#4: Add Flavorings

Air fryer roasted bananas are delicious on their own, but you can add extra flavor by adding different types of seasonings. Some of the best seasonings to add to air fryer roasted bananas include cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and maple syrup. You can either sprinkle the seasonings on the bananas after slicing them or mix them together in a small bowl and drizzle over the bananas.

Tip#5: Preheat the Air Fryer

Preheating the air fryer is essential to ensure that the bananas cook evenly and turn out crispy on the outside. Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit for about 5 minutes before adding the bananas. This will help to create a crispy crust on the outside of the bananas while keeping the inside moist and tender.

Tip#6: Use Cooking Spray

To prevent the bananas from sticking to the air fryer basket or tray, use cooking spray. Spray the air fryer basket or tray with cooking spray before adding the banana slices. This will help the bananas to cook evenly and prevent them from sticking to the basket or tray.

Tip#7: Check the Bananas Regularly

It is important to check the bananas regularly as they cook in the air fryer to ensure that they do not burn. Depending on the thickness of the banana slices and the temperature of the air fryer, the cooking time will vary. Check the bananas every 5 minutes or so to see how they are cooking. Once they start to turn golden brown, they are almost done. You can also shake the basket or tray to ensure that the bananas cook evenly.

Tip#8: Let the Bananas Cool

After the bananas are done cooking, it is important to let them cool for a few minutes before serving. The bananas will be very hot right out of the air fryer, and letting them cool for a few minutes will help them to firm up a bit and become easier to handle. You can also sprinkle some additional seasonings on the bananas before serving.

Conclusion

Air fryer roasted bananas are a healthy and delicious snack that you can enjoy any time of the day. By following these valuable tips, you can make the best air fryer roasted bananas that are crispy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside. Remember to choose ripe but not overly ripe bananas, slice them evenly, use lemon juice to prevent browning, add flavorings, preheat the air fryer, use cooking spray, check the bananas regularly, and let them cool before serving.
