Time 30m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 19

Four 4-inch portobello mushrooms, stems removed
1 tablespoon olive oil
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 ounces white Cheddar, shredded (about 1 cup)
3 ounces Havarti cheese, shredded (about 1 cup)
2 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 large egg
1 cup panko
Olive oil cooking spray
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
4 brioche burger buns, split
4 leaves bibb or green leaf lettuce
1 large tomato, sliced

Steps:

  • Preheat a 3.5-quart air fryer to 400 degrees F.
  • Toss together the mushrooms, oil, 1/4 teaspoon salt and a few grinds of pepper. Place the mushrooms in the air-fryer basket and fry until tender, about 3 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate to cool, 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, stir together the Cheddar, Havarti cheese, cream cheese, chili powder, garlic powder and onion powder in a medium bowl. Divide the mixture into 4 portions. Form each portion into a disk about 3 1/2 inches wide to fit inside the mushroom caps.
  • Once the mushrooms are cool enough to handle, horizontally cut off the upper third of each mushroom cap. Place 1 cheese disk inside each mushroom, gill-side up, and sandwich with the top of the mushroom cap, pressing down to cover the cheese filling.
  • Whisk the flour and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a small baking dish. Whisk the egg in a second baking dish. Put the panko in a third baking dish.
  • Dredge the mushrooms in the flour, shake off any excess and coat in the egg mixture. Allow the excess egg to drip off, then coat in the panko, pressing to adhere. Spray the mushrooms with the cooking spray and place in the air fryer basket. Cook until golden brown, about 4 minutes per side.
  • Mix together the mayonnaise, barbecue sauce and ketchup in a small bowl. Spread a generous layer of the sauce on both sides of the buns. Add to each bottom bun 1 lettuce leaf, 1 tomato slice and 1 mushroom burger. Finish with the bun tops, slice in half and serve.

Air fryer olive burgers are perfect for those who love healthy yet tasty food. Olive burgers are a perfect combination of juicy beef and briny olive, rich in flavor and packs a healthy punch. They are cooked using an air fryer, which is a healthier alternative to deep frying. In this article, we will provide valuable tips on how to make the perfect air fryer olive burgers.

Tip #1: Choosing the Right Ground Beef

When it comes to making the perfect air fryer olive burger, the quality of ground beef you choose is essential. It is crucial to select high-quality ground beef with the right amount of fat content. Ground beef with a higher fat content will result in juicy and flavorful burgers. For olive burgers, it is recommended to use ground beef with 80% lean and 20% fat content.

Tip #2: Preparing the Olive

The olives used in making the burger play a vital role in the taste and texture of the burger. It is important to prepare the olives properly before adding them to the burger mixture. You can use either green or black olives, but make sure they are pitted.
Chopping the Olive
Chop the olives into small pieces using a sharp knife, ensuring they are not too fine. If the pieces are too small, they may get lost in the burger mixture, and if they are too big, they may overpower the beef flavor.
Draining the Olive
Olives have a high water content and can make the burger mixture wet, resulting in a dense and soggy burger. It is advisable to drain the olives before adding them to the burger mixture. You can do this by placing the chopped olives on a paper towel to absorb excess water.

Tip #3: Mixing the Ingredients

Proper mixing is key to making a juicy and flavorful air fryer olive burger. When mixing ground beef and olive, make sure not to overdo it. Overmixing can result in a tougher and denser burger. Instead, gently mix the ingredients until they are just combined.
Adding the Olive
Add the chopped and drained olives to the ground beef and mix gently. Be sure to distribute the olives evenly throughout the mixture to ensure every bite of the burger has the same flavor.
Seasoning the Burger
Seasoning the burger is another important step to make a flavorful air fryer olive burger. To keep things simple, add salt and black pepper to the burger. For those who want to experiment with flavors, add spices like cumin, paprika, or Italian seasoning.

Tip #4: Forming the Burger Patty

Forming a burger patty is easy, but there are a few things to keep in mind.
Dividing the Mixture
Divide the burger mixture into equal portions based on the desired size. When dividing, make sure each portion is consistent in size.
Forming the Patty
With wet hands, form the burger patty gently. Be careful not to overwork the meat, as this can lead to a dense and tough burger. Make sure the patty is slightly larger than the burger bun to account for shrinkage during cooking.

Tip #5: Cooking the Burger in the Air Fryer

Cooking the air fryer olive burger can take anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes depending on the size of the burger.
Preheating the Air Fryer
Start by preheating the air fryer to ensure even cooking. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F for 5 minutes.
Cooking the Burger
Place the burger patty in the air fryer basket and cook for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the patty. Flip the burger halfway through cooking to ensure even browning.
Checking for Doneness
Check the internal temperature of the burger using a meat thermometer. The ideal temperature for a well-done burger is 160°F.
Serving the Burger
Once the burger is cooked, remove it from the air fryer and let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Serve the burger on a toasted bun with your favorite toppings.

Conclusion

In summary, air fryer olive burgers are a healthy yet delicious option for anyone looking for a quick and easy meal. The perfect air fryer olive burger comes down to choosing the right ingredients, proper mixing, forming the burger patty, and cooking it to perfection. With these tips, you are sure to impress your friends and family with a juicy and flavorful air fryer olive burger.
