Tips for Making Crispy Curry Drumsticks in an Air Fryer

Air fryers have gained immense popularity in recent times, and for good reason. They offer a healthier alternative to traditional cooking methods, and are incredibly versatile. Not only can you cook up some delicious meals quickly, but you can also make them crispy without having to deep fry. One such dish is crispy curry drumsticks. Here are some tips to make the perfect batch of drumsticks in your air fryer.
1. Preheat your air fryer
It is essential to preheat your air fryer before you start cooking your drumsticks. Preheating helps to ensure that the air fryer reaches the desired cooking temperature, which is crucial for the even cooking of the chicken. This will result in crispy and juicy drumsticks that are cooked to perfection.
2. Dry the chicken before seasoning
One common mistake that people tend to make is not drying the chicken properly before seasoning. Excess moisture on the chicken can prevent the skin from crisping up. To avoid this, pat your drumsticks dry with paper towels before seasoning them with your favorite curry powder and spices.
3. Use cornflakes for crunch
Cornflakes are a secret ingredient that can help to bring an extra crunch to your air fryer chicken drumsticks. Crush the cornflakes and mix them with some salt, pepper, and curry powder. Roll the seasoned drumsticks in the cornflakes mixture and coat them evenly. The cornflakes will give a crispy texture to the chicken that will take your dish to the next level.
4. Don't overcrowd the air fryer
It is essential to avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket while cooking drumsticks. When there is too much chicken in the basket, it can prevent hot air from circulating around the chicken, leading to unevenly cooked chicken with soggy skin. Make sure to leave enough space between each drumstick to allow for proper air circulation.
5. Flip the drumsticks halfway through cooking
To ensure that all sides of the drumsticks are evenly cooked and crispy, it is essential to flip them halfway through cooking. This will ensure that both sides of the chicken are exposed to the hot air in the air fryer, resulting in perfectly cooked and crispy drumsticks.
6. Use a meat thermometer
Using a meat thermometer is an essential tool that can help you achieve the perfect texture for your chicken drumsticks. Insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the drumstick to measure the internal temperature. The chicken should be cooked to a temperature of 165°F to ensure it is fully cooked and safe to eat.
7. Let the drumsticks rest
Once the drumsticks are cooked to perfection, it is essential to let them rest for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the juices to settle and distribute evenly throughout the chicken, resulting in moist and tender meat. Resting the chicken will also prevent the juices from running out when you cut into the drumsticks.
8. Serve with dipping sauce
A delicious dipping sauce can elevate the flavor of your crispy curry drumsticks. You can use store-bought sauces or make your own with ingredients like Greek yogurt, lemon juice, and coriander. Drizzle the sauce over the chicken or serve it on the side for dipping. In conclusion, making crispy curry drumsticks in an air fryer is easy and simple. Follow these tips to ensure that your chicken turns out delicious every time. Remember to preheat your air fryer, dry your chicken before seasoning, use cornflakes for crunch, avoid overcrowding the air fryer, flip the drumsticks halfway through cooking, use a meat thermometer, let the drumsticks rest, and serve with a dipping sauce. Happy cooking!
