An air fryer is a small kitchen appliance that circulates hot air around food to cook it. Air fryers have become incredibly popular over the past few years because they offer a healthier way to cook foods that would otherwise be deep fried. One popular food item that can be cooked in an air fryer is asparagus tots. In this article, we will discuss what asparagus tots are, why they are a great option for an air fryer recipe, and how to make them.

What are Asparagus Tots?

Asparagus tots are a delicious and healthy twist on traditional tater tots. Instead of using potatoes, these tots use asparagus as their base. The asparagus is chopped into small pieces and mixed together with other ingredients, such as eggs and bread crumbs, to make a crispy and flavorful bite-sized treat.

Why Air Fryer Asparagus Tots?

Air fryer asparagus tots have several advantages over traditional deep fried or baked tots. First, air frying is a healthier cooking method because it requires little or no oil, which reduces the fat content. Additionally, the hot air in an air fryer circulates around the food, so the tots cook evenly and get crispy on all sides without the need for excess oil. Finally, air fryer asparagus tots are quick and easy to make - they only take about 15 minutes to cook, and cleanup is a breeze.

How to Make Air Fryer Asparagus Tots?

Here's a simple recipe for asparagus tots that you can make in your air fryer:

Ingredients:
  • 1 lb. asparagus
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • Non-stick cooking spray
Instructions:
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F.
  2. Wash and trim the ends off the asparagus. Chop the asparagus into small pieces.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Add the chopped asparagus to the mixing bowl and stir until evenly coated with the breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Spray the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray. Using a small cookie scoop, scoop out the asparagus mixture and form it into small tot shapes. Place the tots in the air fryer basket, making sure to leave some space between the tots so they cook evenly.
  6. Cook the asparagus tots in the air fryer for 10-12 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside. Shake the basket halfway through cooking to ensure even cooking.
  7. Remove the tots from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Conclusion

Air fryer asparagus tots are a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional tater tots. They are easy to make in your air fryer and take only a few minutes to cook. With a crispy outside and a tender inside, these asparagus tots are sure to be a hit with everyone at the table!

Air fryers have become increasingly popular in recent years, thanks to their ability to make crispy and tasty foods with just a fraction of the oil used in traditional deep-frying. Asparagus tots are the perfect recipe to try out in an air fryer. These bite-sized snacks are a healthier twist on traditional tater tots, and they can be made using just a few simple ingredients. In this article, we'll share some valuable tips to help you make the perfect air fryer asparagus tots recipe.

Tip 1: Choose the Right Asparagus

Choosing the right asparagus is the first step to making delicious asparagus tots. Look for firm, straight asparagus spears that are dark green in color. Avoid any asparagus that is limp or has brown spots, as this could be a sign of spoilage. It's also a good idea to select asparagus that is similar in thickness, as this will ensure that your tots cook evenly in the air fryer.

Tip 2: Prep the Asparagus Properly

Before you start making your asparagus tots, it's important to prep the asparagus properly. Begin by rinsing the asparagus under cold water to remove any dirt or debris. Then, trim off the woody ends of the spears, which can be tough and unpleasant to eat. You can do this by bending the asparagus spear near the bottom until it snaps at its natural breaking point. Alternatively, you can cut off the last inch or two of each spear with a sharp knife.

Tip 3: Cut the Asparagus into Even Pieces

To make asparagus tots, you'll need to cut the asparagus into small pieces that are similar in size. A good way to do this is to cut the spears into thirds, then cut each third into four or five pieces. This will give you bite-sized pieces that are easy to work with and will cook evenly in the air fryer.

Tip 4: Use the Right Breading Technique

The breading technique you use can make or break your asparagus tots. To ensure that your tots turn out crispy and delicious, lightly coat each piece of asparagus in flour, then dip it into an egg wash, and finally coat it in seasoned breadcrumbs. You want to make sure each piece of asparagus is evenly coated in each of these three layers. It's also important to press the breadcrumbs firmly onto the asparagus to ensure that they stick well.

Tip 5: Preheat Your Air Fryer

To ensure that your asparagus tots cook evenly and turn out crispy, it's important to preheat your air fryer before cooking. Most air fryers come with a preheat function, which you can use to warm up the air fryer for a few minutes before adding your food. This will ensure that the air fryer is hot enough to cook the asparagus tots evenly.

Tip 6: Use a Cooking Spray

Using a cooking spray is a great way to ensure that your asparagus tots don't stick to the air fryer basket. You can use a non-stick cooking spray or lightly brush the air fryer basket with oil before adding the tots. This will also help to ensure that the tots turn out crispy on all sides.

Tip 7: Don't Overcrowd the Air Fryer Basket

When making asparagus tots in an air fryer, it's important not to overcrowd the basket. This can cause the tots to cook unevenly or even stick together. Instead, make sure to leave some space between each tot so that the air can circulate evenly around each one. You may need to cook your tots in batches if you have a small air fryer basket.

Tip 8: Flip the Tots Halfway Through Cooking

To ensure that your asparagus tots cook evenly on all sides, it's a good idea to flip them over halfway through cooking. You can do this using tongs or a spatula. This will ensure that the tots are crispy on all sides and are cooked through evenly.

Tip 9: Serve the Tots Immediately

Asparagus tots are best served immediately after cooking while they are still hot and crispy. You can serve them as a snack or appetizer, or even as a side dish with your favorite main course. Top them with some freshly grated Parmesan cheese, chopped herbs, or lemon juice for extra flavor.

Conclusion

Asparagus tots are a delicious and healthy snack that can be made easily in an air fryer. By following these valuable tips, you can ensure that your asparagus tots turn out crispy, delicious, and evenly cooked every time.
