Time 40m

Yield 12-14 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

12 cups cold water, divided
12 black tea bags
2 cups freshly squeezed orange juice
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 cups agave nectar (or to taste)
ice cube
thin orange wedges or mint sprig (to garnish)

Steps:

  • In a saucepan, combine 6 cups cold water and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and immediately add the tea bags, orange juice, lemon juice and agave nectar. Cover and let stand for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the lid, allow the tea to cool and remove the tea bags with a slotted spoon. Do not squeeze bags; it makes tea bitter. Pour into a 1 gallon container, topping with the additional 6 cups cold water; stir.
  • To serve, ladle into tall glasses filled with ice and garnish with orange wedges or mint springs.

Choose Quality Tea Leaves
The foundation of any good tea recipe is high-quality tea leaves. When selecting tea leaves for your agave sweetened double orange pekoe tea, look for those that are fresh, fragrant, and free from any additives or artificial flavors. Loose-leaf tea is often preferred by tea enthusiasts because it provides a more complex flavor profile, but if you prefer bagged tea, make sure to select a reputable brand with high-quality leaves.
Select Fresh Oranges
In addition to quality tea leaves, the quality of the oranges you choose for your recipe can also have a significant impact on the flavor of your brew. If possible, select fresh oranges that are ripe, juicy, and free from any signs of spoilage. The zest from the orange peels can also provide a great flavor addition to your tea, so be sure to have a zester on hand to capture this zest.
Choose High-Quality Agave Nectar

It has a lower glycemic index than sugar, making it a great option for those looking to control their blood sugar levels. When selecting agave nectar for your recipe, be sure to choose a high-quality brand that is organic and free from any additives or artificial sweeteners.
Use Fresh Water
The freshness and quality of the water you use to make your tea can have a big impact on its flavor. If your tap water has a strong taste or odor, consider using filtered or bottled water instead. Avoid using hot water from the tap, as it can contain impurities that can affect the taste of your brew.
Steep Your Tea Properly
