STIR FRIED MIXED PEPPERS & MUSHROOMS

Stir Fried Mixed Peppers & Mushrooms image

I looked through 15 pages of Pepper recipes and could not find one even close so will post one. I do this recipe for a Sunday brunch or as a side dish for BBQ's. It is very colorful and tasty. Be sure not to cook the peppers too long, you only want to heat them through so they are still crisp. I often use left over oven fries and then leave out the mushrooms.

Time 1h5m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 11

4 red peppers
2 yellow peppers
1 green pepper
2 red onions
2 white onions
25 medium button mushrooms
2 -4 garlic cloves, minced (optional)
2 tablespoons canola oil
1/2-1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper, fresh ground
red pepper flakes (optional)

Steps:

  • Clean and cut all vegetables (remove stems from mushrooms) except garlic, into strips about 1/2-inch size. (this may seem like alot, but it cooks down).
  • Using large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat.
  • Add only onions first. Cook, stirring occasionally, until translucent. Lower heat to simmer and continue to cook for 15 minutes or until starting to get golden color.
  • Raise heat to medium-high, add peppers and salt, Stir well into onions. Continue to cook until peppers JUST START to get soft.
  • Add mushrooms, combining well.
  • Add black pepper, garlic, and pepper flakes.
  • Stir well. Lower heat to simmer. DO NOT COVER as this will poach vegetables.
  • Continue to simmer until mushrooms give off their juices but are still firm. It is important NOT to overcook as they will cook again when reheated to be used.
  • Remove skillet from heat. Stir.
  • Allow to cool. Peppers and mushrooms should still have body to them.
  • I like to bag portions in plastic sandwich bags, spread out so they are flat in bag. This makes for easy storage once they are frozen. I then place several bags into a freezer storage bag.
  • I have kept this mix frozen for over a year without change in flavor.

  • Pour over vegetables and bacon; cook and stir only until sauce thickens.
  • Serve over hot brown rice, or Chinese noodles, topped with additional soy sauce and toasted sesame seeds.

Acadias Mushroom Pepper Onion Stir Fry Recipes: Valuable Tips

Stir-frying is one of the most popular cooking techniques that is widely used for making healthy and delicious dishes. This cooking method involves the use of high heat for cooking food quickly, while ensuring that the nutrients and flavors are not lost. Among the many stir-fries out there, the Acadias mushroom pepper onion stir fry has become a favorite of many. This dish not only tastes great, but it is also packed with essential nutrients that nourish the body. If you are planning to make Acadias mushroom pepper onion stir fry at home, here are some valuable tips to help you achieve the best results.
Choose the Right Mushrooms
Mushrooms are the main ingredient in this dish, so it is important to choose the right kind of mushroom. It's essential to choose mushrooms that have a firm texture and slightly earthy taste. Some of the best varieties of mushrooms that you can use for this dish include shiitake, oyster, and brown button mushrooms. These mushrooms are known for their meaty texture, and they hold up well when stir-fried. You should also make sure to clean the mushrooms thoroughly before using them in your recipe.
Cutting the Vegetables
To achieve the perfect texture for your Acadias mushroom pepper onion stir fry, you need to cut the vegetables correctly. The onions should be diced into small pieces and the peppers should be cut into thin slices that are about ¼ inch wide. The mushrooms should be sliced into uniform pieces so that they cook evenly. For the best texture, it's important to avoid overcrowding the stir fry pan. When the vegetables are chopped and prepared correctly, they cook much faster and are evenly distributed throughout the dish.
Use the Right Stir Fry Pan
Using the right pan for stir-frying is important, as it affects the quality and flavor of the dish. A wok or a stainless steel pan is an excellent choice, but you can also use a cast-iron skillet. Make sure that your stir fry pan has a flat base to ensure even cooking. A deep pan with sloping sides is perfect for stir-frying as it allows the food to be tossed around easily. A non-stick pan is another option, but you need to be careful not to overheat it, as it can release harmful fumes.
Marinate the Vegetables
Marinating the vegetables before cooking is an excellent way to enhance the flavor of this dish. You can use a simple marinade made from salt, pepper, and your favorite spices. You can also use soy sauce or tamari sauce to add flavor and depth to the dish. Marinating the vegetables for at least 30 minutes before cooking also helps to tenderize them and make them more flavorful.
Cook the Vegetables in Small Batches
When stir-frying, it is crucial to cook the ingredients in small batches. If you put too much food in the pan at once, it will take longer to cook, and the vegetables may end up getting soggy instead of being crispy. To cook the vegetables in small batches, add a little oil to the pan and then add the vegetables. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, then remove the vegetables from the pan and set them aside. Continue cooking the remaining vegetables in the same way until all of them are cooked.
Add the Ingredients in the Right Order
Adding the ingredients in the right order is important for achieving a delicious and well-cooked stir fry. Start by heating the oil in the pan and then add the onions. Cook the onions for 2-3 minutes or until they become translucent. Next, add the peppers and mushrooms and stir-fry for another 3-4 minutes, or until they become tender. Finally, add your favorite spices and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
Use High Heat
Stir-frying requires high heat to cook the vegetables quickly and keep them crispy. The heat should be high enough that the vegetables sizzle when they are added to the pan. If the heat is too low, the vegetables will end up getting steamed and may become soggy. Remember that stir-frying is all about cooking the vegetables quickly, so make sure you keep the heat high throughout the cooking process.
Add the Right Spices and Sauces
To achieve a unique flavor for your stir fry, it's important to add the right spices and sauces. You can use a combination of soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and red pepper flakes to add depth and flavor to the dish. You can also use oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, or sesame oil for a more traditional flavor. Taste the dish as you add the spices to make sure that you are achieving the right balance of flavors.
Garnish the Stir Fry
Garnishing your Acadias mushroom pepper onion stir fry is the perfect way to add an excellent finishing touch to the dish. You can use fresh herbs such as chopped cilantro or basil to add flavor and visual appeal to the dish. You can also add toasted sesame seeds or crushed peanuts for a tasty crunch. Garnishing the dish not only makes it look more attractive but it also enhances the flavor and aroma of the dish.
Conclusion
Acadias mushroom pepper onion stir fry recipes have become a favorite of many due to the delicious flavor and high nutritional value. By following these valuable tips, you can achieve the best results when making this dish at home. Remember to choose the right mushrooms, cut the vegetables correctly, marinate them before cooking, use the right pan, cook the vegetables in small batches, add the ingredients in the right order and use high heat.
