Make two batches of this-one to have on hand for several batches of Italian Dressing and one to use as a seasoning for grilled or roasted chicken! From Down Home with the Neely's Cookbook.

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 tablespoon garlic salt
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1/4 teaspoon celery salt
2 tablespoons cajun seasoning
1/4 cup red wine vinegar (original recipe called for white wine vinegar)
2/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons mixed spice (above spice mix)

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the garlic salt, onion powder, sugar, oregano, pepper, thyme, basil, parsley, celery salt, and Cajun seasoning.
  • Store the spice mix in a tightly sealed container, and use as needed.
  • To make dressing, whisk together the vinegar, oil, water and 2 tbls. of the spice mix. Enjoy!

I use this mix often, it's better for you than the store bought packets.

2 Tbsp oregano, dried
1 Tbsp parsley flakes
1 Tbsp garlic powder
1 Tbsp onion powder
1 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp lemon-pepper seasoning
1/4 tsp dried thyme
1/4 tsp celery salt

Steps:

  • 1. Combine all of the ingredients in a Ball/Kerr type glass jar and shake to combine. You can recycle one of the empty onion powder or garlic powder bottles as well.
  • 2. To make dressing, mix 2 Tbsp mix with 2 Tbsp water, 1/4 cup vinegar (white or cider), 2/3 cup oil light olive oil and a sprinkle of lemon juice. Use the dressing right away or place in the frig for a couple hours to let the flavors mingle.
  • 3. Or you can use this mix sprinkled on chicken, red potatoes, pork chops, etc. and bake in the oven.
  • 4. Store the dry mix in an air tight container.
