WHEAT GERM BROWNIES

These have a slightly caramel crunchy bottom layer and a chocolately top layer, and lots of wheat germ flavor.

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup unbleached white flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
6 tablespoons melted butter
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1/3 cup butter
3/4 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2/3 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Steps:

  • Bottom layer: Mix together wheat germ, flour, brown sugar, melted butter.
  • Spread mixture evenly into bottom of greased and floured 9"x9" baking pan.
  • Set aside.
  • Top layer:Melt butter and chocolate over very low heat.
  • Remove from heat, beat together with sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  • Add dry ingredients and mix.
  • Spread over bottom layer.
  • Bake at 350 degrees 25-30 minutes.
  • Cool, slice into squares.

1/4 c canola or other salad oil
1 Tbsp dark molasses
7/8 c granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 c wheat germ
1/2 c powdered milk (optional)
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. Grease an 8 inch square baking pan and set oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit to heat up while preparing the brownie batter.
  • 2. Mix oil, molasses, sugar, eggs and vanilla together well. Mix dry ingredients (wheat germ, powdered milk, baking powder, and salt) together in a large bowl.
  • 3. Add sugar/egg mixture to the dry ingredients in the bowl and mix until incorporated.
  • 4. Pour brownie mixture into the prepared pan. Set it into the preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes, or until it appears to be done. Allow to cool and cut into squares.

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
5 tablespoons margarine
3/4 cup tbsps quick-cooking oats
2 tablespoons quick-cooking oats
1/4 cup toasted wheat germ
1/3 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg
2 egg whites
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup sugar (I use Splenda)
1 teaspoon vanilla

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Grease 8X8X2 inch pan.
  • Melt chocolate with margarine in small heavy saucepan over very low heat or in double boiler.
  • Remover from heat; blend. Reserve.
  • Combine oats, wheat germ, nonfat dry milk, baking poder, salt (you can add 1/2 cup chopped walnuts if you like) in medium size bowl. Mix well. Reserve.
  • Beat eggs in medium size bowl until light.
  • Gradually beat in both sugars and vanilla until mixture is thick.
  • Stir in chocolate mixture; fold in oat mixture. Spread batter in pan.
  • Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes or until toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean and the top is crips and edges firm.
  • Cool in pan on rack. Cover with foil, and refrigerate overnight.

4 squares unsweetened chocolate
3/4 cup margarine
1 1/4 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 cup wheat germ
2 cups sugar
3 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup coarsely chopped nuts

Steps:

  • Melt together chocolate and margarine. Set aside to cool.
  • In large bowl combine next 5 ingredients. Mix well. Stir in melted chocolate mixture, eggs, vanilla. Mix well. Fold in nuts.
  • Grease a 13x9x2-inch pan, spread in pan and bake in 350 degrees F oven for 30 minutes. Do not over bake. Cool and cut into squares. They are best the next day.

Espresso Wheat Germ Brownies image

No-stick flour and oil baking spray
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs, large or extra-large
1 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon instant espresso powder
pinch salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup toasted wheat germ
1 cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 350°F. Coat an 8- by 8-inch baking pan with baking spray.Mix the oil, eggs, sugar, vanilla, espresso powder, salt, and baking powder in a bowl until blended. Stir in the wheat germ and walnuts and scrape into the prepared baking pan. Bake until the surface is dry and a tester inserted in the center comes out clean, about 35 minutes.
