2 pounds sweet onions (sliced)
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups heavy cream
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup butter crackers (crushed)
2 tablespoons butter (melted)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Use the convection setting if available. Spray 2 quart casserole with cooking spray.
  • Cook on the stovetop on medium-low until they get soft about 20 minutes. (you can skip this step if you like the onions more firm.) Layer the onions in the bottom of the casserole. Sprinkle with 3 tablespoons of flour, salt, and pepper.
  • Pour heavy cream over the onions in the dish.
  • Combine crushed crackers and butter and toss to coat. Sprinkle evenly over the onions.
  • Cook 30 to 35 minutes. Serve

This is a delicious side dish to any meal, even people that do not like onions, like this recipe! also, this can be prepared a day ahead, and baked when ready.

6 large vidalia onions, peeled and sliced very thinly
salt and pepper
1/2 cup butter
30 Ritz crackers (use one sleeve of crackers, coarsely crushed)
1 cup grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Set oven to 350 degrees.
  • Butter a 2-qt casserole dish.
  • In a large saucepan, melt butter.
  • Add onions to pan, over high heat, saute until soft, and just starting to brown, about 20-25 minutes
  • Remove from heat.
  • Place half of the onions in the baking dish; cover with half the crackers, and half of the Parmesan.
  • Repeat to make another layer of onions, crackers and Parmesan Bake, uncovered, until cheese on top is lightly browned, about 25 mins Serve warm.
  • Note: if made a day ahead, let cool, and keep refrigerated until time to reheat for serving.

An easy and really tasty side dish for all onion lovers (like myself lol!) this recipe can easily be doubled to feed more people. I like to add in a couple tablespoons of mayonnaise for an even more creamier taste! This is SOOOOO good and can also be made with regular onions too!

5 -6 vidalia onions, sliced
1/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon sugar (this will help caramelize the onions)
1/4 cup sour cream
3/4 cup parmesan cheese
salt and black pepper
20 crackers, crushed (Ritz or Saltines are fine, can use more)

Steps:

  • Set oven to 350 degrees.
  • Butter a shallow baking dish large enough to hold the onions.
  • In a medium frypan, saute the onions in butter and sugar over medium heat until soft, not browned; remove from heat, and stir in the sour cream, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Spoon half of the onion mixture into the prepared greased baking dish.
  • Sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese.
  • Top with remaining onion mixture and crushed crackers.
  • Bake, uncovered for 20-25 minutes.

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Melt 4 tablespoons butter in a stoveproof gratin dish over medium-high heat; add 4 pounds Vidalia onions (cut into wedges) and cook 5 minutes. Add a pinch each of nutmeg, cayenne, salt and black pepper, then add 3 tablespoons white wine and simmer 2 minutes. Whisk 1 1/4 cups half-and-half and 3 tablespoons flour; stir into the onions and bring to a boil. Mix 2 tablespoons melted butter, 1 cup panko (Japanese breadcrumbs), 2 tablespoons chopped chives, and salt and pepper. Sprinkle over the onion, cover with parchment paper and bake 30 minutes. Uncover and broil until golden, 5 more minutes.
