TIPSY CHERRIES (MADE WITH FRESH CHERRIES)

Tipsy Cherries (Made With Fresh Cherries) image

My daughter use to work at a fruit and vegetable stand which was absolutely wonderful. I always had a beautiful supply of fresh ingredients all summer long. One year, I got tired of pitting cherries and I found this recipe. It's been a family favorite since... the adult family members, that is! =) Enjoy as is, in mixed drinks, teas, fruit juices or over ice cream. My recipe using jarred maraschino cherries will follow in the comments section. So easy and delicious!

Number Of Ingredients 3

4 - cups washed, fresh cherries unpitted
1/2 - cup sugar
- brandy, whiskey, bourbon, vodka or rum

Steps:

  • 1. Fill quart canning jar with cherries. Add sugar. Fill with liquor and seal securely with lid and band.
  • 2. Shake every couple of hours until sugar dissolves.
  • 3. Store in a cool, dry spot for at least a month. Tip the jar upside down and back again occasionally. You can eat them at any time, but the longer they sit, the better they get.
  • 4. Makes a beautiful gift tied with a pretty ribbon and gift tag, especially when you have been invited to a party or as a hostess gift.

MARASCHINO CHERRIES

The liquid and cherries glow Kool-Aid red, but they are seductively crisp-textured and steeped with an exotic, piney, floral flavor that is just sweet enough but balanced by a tart tang. Sublime in a manhattan, they are even better over coconut sorbet, and just imagine them on top of an ice cream sundae.
