TERIYAKI STEAK MARINADE

TERIYAKI STEAK MARINADE image

Teriyaki Grilled Rib Eye Steak
This example was done with a well marbled, tender rib eye steaks, but this marinade can used equally well with any steak -- or chicken or fish for that matter. I like to use fresh ingredients whenever possible, as it really makes a difference in the flavors you get.
Marinade Ingredients
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 teaspoons honey
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon ginger, fresh finely chopped
Mix together all of these ingredients in a bowl and whisk well to be sure that the honey and brown sugar are incorporated.

Steps:

  • In this example, this marinade produces enough to marinate two steaks, so it would be sufficient for two of anything (chicken breasts, salmon steaks etc). Place your steaks in a Ziploc bag and pour in the marinade. Marinate in the refrigerator for four to six hours (you can go longer if you wish!): When you are ready to grill, remove the steaks from the marinade and allow them to drip dry. Be sure that your grill is heated up and ready to go. Brush the steaks with canola oil on both sides and apply sea salt and cracked black pepper to taste on both sides.

BACKYARD FLANK STEAK TERIYAKI

Backyard Flank Steak Teriyaki image

This sweet-and-salty steak comes from the writer Jeff Gordinier's mother, who cooked it on a grill on their patio in California, under the grapefruit tree, after having soaked for hours in her teriyaki marinade. But marinated flank steak is such a foolproof crowd-pleaser that it can translate to any American topography. Serve in high summer as the sun goes down and the temperature drops.

1 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup soy sauce
