Steak and Shake 5 way Chili combines all the flavors of chili with the added bonus of spaghetti. Yes, spaghetti and the steak quality burgers Steak N Shake is known for are the secret ingredients to this comfort food.

2 pounds ground chuck (coarsely ground)
1 1/2 cups onion (diced)
1 teaspoon celery salt
32 ounces tomato sauce
1 cup Water
28 ounces light kidney beans
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic salt
2 tablespoons chili powder (plus 1 teaspoon chili powder)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
16 ounces tomato paste
1 pound spaghetti
1 onion (diced)
12 ounces Monterey Jack - Colby cheese blend
2 tablespoons Heinz Chili Sauce

Steps:

  • Please note the onions that are cooked in the chili are optional. You can leave them out. I personally love onions when cooked in the chili. Steak N Shake does not add onions to cooked chili. Chopped onions are served on top of the chili.
  • In a skillet on medium-low heat saute ground beef and onions. When the beef has been cooked, drain all grease and place in a medium-large saucepan. Add celery salt, tomato sauce, kidney beans, garlic powder, garlic salt, chili powder, pepper, water, and salt, mix all ingredients.
  • On low heat place a lid on the saucepan and simmer for one hour, stirring frequently. After the chili has been cooking for an hour add tomato paste and stir well. Place lid on the pan and simmer an additional half-hour. Prepare spaghetti as directed and drain.

Steak n Shake is a favorite resturant in our house and a friend gave me this recipe. We NO LONGER order Chili mac when we go to Steak n Shake...this is soooo much better!

1 1/2 lb hamburger
2 can(s) steak n shake chili with beans or rays chili with beans
24 oz brooks tangy ketchup
4 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
4 Tbsp brown sugar
16 oz pasta noodles

Steps:

  • 1. Brown hamburger and drain. I always use garlic and onion in my browned hamburger, but you don't have to
  • 2. Put the hamburger back in the pan and add the ketchup, chili, vinegar, and brown sugar. Mix well and let simmer. (the longer you let it simmer the better the flavor
  • 3. When you are ready to eat boil the noodles.
  • 4. You can either mix the noodles in with the sauce and put the noodles on a plate and pour sauce over the top.
  • 5. For Chili Mac supreme, add shredded cheese and onion before serving. This is a staple meal at our house!!

Steak and Shake was a franchise started in the Midwest. My father would take me there on special occasions. I loved their chili! This is a chili which would be ideal for children. It is very mild with a slight sweetness. I found this recipe on the internet @ I dunno4recipes. The recipe origionally called for 2 (15 ounce) cans of kidney beans drained, but I prefer the taste of chili beans better

2 tablespoons oil
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can Campbell's French onion soup
1 tablespoon chili powder
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons cocoa
2 (15 ounce) cans ranch style beans or 2 (15 ounce) cans any brand chili beans
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup cola (not diet!)

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef and salt in oil-If there is a high fat content to the ground beef you can omit the oil.
  • Put soup in blender, blend for 1 minute.
  • Add all to crock pot.
  • Drain beef before adding to pot.
  • Let simmer on low for 6 hours or on high for 2 hours.
