Here's a version of a recipe my mom used to make! Over the years I've cut back on the amount of spices but still enjoy the combination, whether over ice cream, pound cake, fruitcake, pancakes and even some meats! At times I've even jazzed it up a little with a bit of cherry flavoring, if you know what I mean!

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (16 ounce) bag frozen pitted tart cherries, thawed
1 cup light corn syrup
1/3 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 dash salt

Steps:

  • Except for the cherries, combine all ingredients in a saucepan & bring to boil.
  • Reduce heat & simmer 15 minutes, stirring frequently.
  • Remove from heat & stir in cherries.
  • Cool before serving.

Got this one from an an old BHG book. Looked really good, especially for this time of year.

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 cups cherry flavored apple cider or apple cider
4 cups strong brewed tea
1/2 of a 6 oz. can frozen orange juice concentrate
1/2 of a 6 oz. can frozen lemonade concentrate
1/2 cup sugar
3 inches cinnamon stick
1 tsp. whole cloves

Steps:

  • 1. In large kettle, mix 8 cups water with the cider, tea, juice concentrates and sugar. Put cinnamon and cloves in cheesecloth and tie. Add to cider mixture. Bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Serves 18

CHERRY CIDER

This nicely spiced, simmered beverage is so warming. For a special holiday accent, garnish the mugs using maraschino cherries and a sliced orange.

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 cups apple cider or juice
3/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup maraschino cherry juice
3 whole cloves
3 whole allspice
1 cinnamon stick
1 orange peel strip (1 to 3 inches)
6 maraschino cherries
6 orange slices

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, combine the cider and juices. Place the cloves, allspice, cinnamon stick and orange peel on a double thickness of cheesecloth; bring up corners of cloth and tie with kitchen string to form a bag. Add to the pan., Bring to a simmer over medium heat (do not boil). Simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes. Discard spice bag. Serve cider warm in mugs; garnish with cherries and orange slices.
