Classic simple white bread. Great for sandwiches & makes amazing toast. I have a Cooks model 780-2159 bread maker. This recipe comes more or less right out their instruction manual. Bread mixes are convenient & always seem to work, but are really expensive. I buy my yeast by a pint jar rather than packets. The yeast will keep for years in the fridge. I buy my flour in 12lb size bags at member mega store. Preferably bread or 00 flour than general purpose. Making my purchases this way, I figure this loaf cost about 35 cents.

Steps:
- Proof the yeast: Put 1/4 cup of warm water into cup with 1 tablespoon Surgar and 2 teaspoons of yeast.
- put dry ingredients into bread maker.
- flour, salt, dry milk, Surgar, butter.
- add water & finally the proofed yeast.
- set bread maker on 'basic' recipe, 1 1/2 loaf, medium cook.
- push 'start'.
- About 3 1/2 hours later you should have a beautiful loaf of white bread.
- You need a high quality serrated bread knife to slice the finished loaf. Otherwise you get the squashed bread effect.
