TURKEY CHILI (JANE BRODY) image

Number Of Ingredients 19

1 1/2 tb, canola oil
1 pound chopped peppers green or red
1 1/2 pounds onions - chopped
2 garlic cloves minced
2 jalapeno or green chilis minced (optional)
1/2 cup minced fresh parsley
3 pounds ground turkey or breast
1/3 cup mild chili powder
2-3 tbs hot chili powder
2 30oz cans red kidney beans drained
2 28oz cans tomatoes with juice
1-2 tbs brown sugar
1 tbs oregano crumbled
2 teas cumin
1 1/2 teas pepper
1 teas salt or to tate
1 teas coriander
1/4 teas ground cloves
1/4 teas allspice

Steps:

  • 1. In a large heavy pot or very large skillet heat oil, add peppers and saute slowly for 5 minutes. Add onions continue sauteing for 3 minutes more. Add garlic and jalapenos and parsley and saute 1 minute. 2. Add turkey and stir in chili powder and brown turkey over medium heat for about 10 m inutes, breaking up to cook evenly. If using a skillet, now transfer the mixture to a large heavy pot. 3. Stir in remaining ingredients, combining torooughly. Bring to a boil over medium heat, reduce heat, cover pot and simmer for 1 hour. Then uncover pot, cook chili for 30 minutes more.
