Texas Hash image

This recipe was in my very first cookbook I received as a wedding shower present. That means I made this over 36 years ago! It is tasty, and it even gets tastier when you serve it the next day. It also freezes well.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb ground beef
3 large onions, sliced (large onions are about 3 1/2 inches in diameter
1 large green pepper, chopped
1 lb canned tomatoes (undrained)
1/2 c uncooked rice
1 to 2 tsp chili powder
2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2. In a large skillet, cook and stir beef until light brown. Drain off fat.
  • 3. Add onions and green pepper to the skillet. Cook and stir until onion is tender.
  • 4. Stir in tomoatoes, rice, and chili powder, salt, and pepper. Heat through.
  • 5. Pour into ungreased two-quart casserole dish; cover and bake one hour.
