Tamarillo Brulee with Whipped Creme Fraiche image

This sweet and tangy fruit, also called a tree tomato, is cut in halves and roasted to intensify its flavor in this delectable Tamarillo Brulee with Whipped Creme Fraiche.

1 pint creme fraiche
1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
6 ripe tamarillos
1/4 cup granulated sugar

Steps:

  • Set oven to broil, and adjust rack to four inches below broiler element.
  • Combine creme fraiche, confectioners sugar, and ginger in bowl of an electric mixer; whisk until thick and fluffy. Set aside.
  • Slice tamarillos in half lengthwise; arrange, cut side up, on baking tray. Sprinkle granulated sugar over tamarillos, creating even coating. Broil until sugar bubbles and starts to caramelize, about 5 minutes. Serve immediately with dollop of whipped creme fraiche.
