This is a very old recipe, from the 1800's -- even older than me!

Steps:
- Pare, core, and halve the apples.
- Cover the apples overnight with the sugar.
- Next morning, set them on the fire, and add the cinnamon and the cloves.
- Cook the apples until they are easily stuck with a fork.
- Add the vinegar, and boil another five minutes.
- Seal in jars while the apples are still very hot.
- A cinnamon stick can be added to each jar, if you wish.
