Strawberry Almond Bars image

I like these versatile bars because they're made from ingredients I almost always have on hand. Sometimes I substitute apricot or peach preserves for the strawberry.

Number Of Ingredients 15

1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
TOPPING:
3/4 cup strawberry preserves
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
GLAZE:
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 to 2 teaspoons 2% milk

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine flour and brown sugar; cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Press into a greased 9-in. square baking pan. Bake at 350° for 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned., Spread preserves over crust. In a small bowl, combine the butter, flour, brown sugar, oats, cinnamon and extract; sprinkle over preserves. , Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Combine the confectioners' sugar, almond extract and enough milk to achieve desired consistency; drizzle over warm bars. Cool completely on a wire rack.
