Sour Cream Apple Pie image

A twist on apple pie. This is an absolutely delicious, creamy, melt in your mouth apple pie. The Walnut Streusel topping takes it to the next level.

2 cup(s) apples, diced (granny smith, golden delicious, macintosh, winesap)
3/4 cup(s) sugar
2 tablespoon(s) flour
1/2 teaspoon(s) vanilla
1/8 teaspoon(s) salt
1 cup(s) sour cream
1 - egg, slightly beaten
1 - 9 inch pie shell, unbaked, refrigerated
TOPPING
1/3 cup(s) sugar or brown sugar
1 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
1/3 cup(s) flour
1/4 cup(s) butter, melted
1/2 cup(s) walnuts, chopped

Steps:

  • Mix 3/4 cup sugar and 2 tbsp. flour and whisk sour cream, egg, vanilla, salt until well blended.
  • Fold in apples; pour into unbaked pie shell.
  • Bake at 425 degrees for 20 minutes. Decrease temperature to 350 degrees and bake for 15 minutes.
  • While pie is baking, combine 1/3 cup sugar with cinnamon and 1/3 cup flour and walnuts; add melted butter and stir with fork. Chill until needed. Sprinkle Streusel over pie and return to oven. Bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes.
  • Cool, then refrigerate.
