Salt Water Taffy image

Found this recipe in a box. It is in a mini booklet of recipes called Old-Fashioned Goodness that came off a Karo Syrup bottle a long time ago. I haven't tried it yet, but I will when the grandkids come to visit.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 c sugar
2 Tbsp cornstarch
3/4 c light karo corn syrup
1/2 c water
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp butter
2 tsp vanilla

Steps:

  • 1. Mix sugar and corn starch in 1 1/2 Qt heavy bottom saucepan.
  • 2. Stir in corn syrup, water, salt and butter.
  • 3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils and sugar is completely dissolved.
  • 4. Continue cooking, without stirring, until temp on candy thermometor reaches 260 F. If you dont have one; take a small amount and drop it into very cold water, it should form a ball and hold its shape when removed from the water.
  • 5. Remove from the heat and add the vanilla.
  • 6. Grease the sides and bottom of a 9X9 pan. Pour mixture into pan and let sit until cool enough to handle.
  • 7. Pull and fold in half. Continue pulling and folding until it has a satin finish and light color.
  • 8. Take a piece and pull until 1/2 inch thick.
  • 9. Cut with scissors into 1 inch pieces.
  • 10. Wrap in waxed paper squares.
