Number Of Ingredients 10

1 pound(s) lean ground chuck
1/2 cup(s) bread crumbs
1 large egg
1 teaspoon(s) salt
- onion powder, garlic powder and black pepper to taste
2 medium onions, peeled and sliced thin
8 ounce(s) fresh mushrooms, sliced
2 package(s) dry brown gravy mix
1 package(s) dry mushroom gravy mix
2 cup(s) beef broth

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Peel and slice onions and set aside. Wash and slice mushrooms and set aside. In a large cast iron skillet or other oven proof skillet that has a lid, pour a small amount of cooking oil and set aside. You'll need one with deep sides.
  • In a large bowl, combine hamburger, bread crumbs, eggs, salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder. Form into four equal sized, thick patties and set aside.
  • In the large skillet, heat oil. When oil is hot, brown patties well on both sides. Once browned, remove from pan and place on a plate. (Patties will not be cooked through, only browned).
  • Saute the sliced onions in the same skillet that the patties were browned in. When the onions are beginning to cook and turn transparent, add the mushrooms and cook until done. Remove from heat.
  • Return patties to the skillet. Mix gravies and beef broth, whisking until smooth. Pour over onions, mushrooms and beef patties. Cover and place in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove from oven, stir gently and let stand for about 5 minutes. Serve with mashed potatoes and your favorite veggies.
