Red Velvet Cake, Mom image

Mom also made homemade Red Velvet Cake Frosting (the recipe is in JAP), to make this cake extra special.

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 bottle red food coloring (the actual bottle, not the squeeze tube)
2 bottle water (the food coloring bottles)
3 Tbsp instant cocoa
1/2 c crisco
1 1/2 c sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 c cake flour
1 tsp salt
1 c buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vinegar

Steps:

  • 1. Make a paste of food coloring and cocoa and set aside. Cream Crisco and sugar, add eggs. Alternately add flour, salt, buttermilk and vanilla. Add paste, then stir in soda and vinegar. Bake at 350 degrees 30-35 min.
