*Real* Russian Tea image

No, Russian Tea is NOT made with Tang!! It is black tea. In Russia, they have a bit of a different brewing/serving process. Cook time is steep time; edit to suit your tastes. Found at good ole Wikipedia. Plus, we had close Russian friends years ago who made us tea & poppyseed cake. Good stuff!

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 tsp per person loose black tea
hot water to fill teapot plus extra to top off cups of tea
to taste lemon
to taste honey
to taste jam
to taste sugar

Steps:

  • 1. A notable feature of Russian tea culture is the two-step brewing process. Firstly, tea concentrate (Russian: заварка) is prepared: a quantity of dry tea sufficient for several persons is brewed in a small teapot.
  • 2. Then, each person pours some quantity of this concentrate into the cup and mixes it with hot water; thus, one can make one's tea as strong as one wants, according to one's taste.
  • 3. Sugar, lemon, honey or jam can then be added freely.
